I've heard mixed results, but have seen some people get good mileage and long life out of them. The 03 with the red head is a big improvement over the original. I have only run o.s. engines in my truck, and like them. Try maybe a 12 TR by o.s., loads of power and i have like 6 gallons threw it, and instead of rebuilding i am just going to buy another for this season.

Which RB is it? As far as OS goes, the CVR or TR would be great choices. Both are fast..the only real problem is fuel economy(from what I've seen, at least). One alternative would be to get a nice Picco(like a Wasp) or an MT12, and take the carb from your CV, get a Lunsford or Hardcore adapter, and use the OS carb on one of those engines. Great power, great fuel economy, and super easy to tune. I have an MT12 with an OS 10ER carb, and I love it! 9+ minute run times, easy to tune, runs 200-210 all day, and makes awesome power.

No more than 240, 220 to 230 is about maximum what you wanna be running it at, this is around the glow plug hole thats how hot it should be, not at the top of the heatsink. Definetly not anywhere over 235, or else you start to run it too lean and its life will be a bit shoter.

Never tune by temperature alone. As long as you can see blue smoke (a thin trail is all you really need) coming from the exhaust pipe through the powerband/throttle range, you're fine, it means the engine is getting lubricant (not burning it all off by being too lean). That being said, I'd start to worry if you get up around 230-250 with the MIP guage (MIP will usually be colder than if you use an infrared temp gun, since the MIP is measuring it at the bottom fin, and the temp gun will be measuring it at the glow plug, where you want to be getting your temps from).

I just ordered my drake kit, should be picking it up friday. I'm not sure what engine I'm going to get yet thought. I have a mach .15 but I think I'm gonna get something else. Any suggestions?
I saw an OS red head there for $85 (I think that's how much it was) but I'm reconsidering now that someone said they are gas guzzelers

hey i haev an os cvx 12 racing engine that was never used and was ported by Jw porting service.. i got the racer porting. The engien comes with glow plug, glowplug starter with charger, heatsink motor mounts, if hte kit doesn't come with a pipe i have a hpi composite tuned pipe, duratrax high performance racing airfilter. and is pullstart, and a blue traxxas header, stil in original box!!
will sell for 140shipped, from what i have heard this engine i not a gas guzzler, my friend has one in his xxx-nt and he gets like 20-25 min. run times! on 20% nitro.(blue thunder). The engien is wicked fast his car is not the adam drake so his is heavier and the car topped out on his radar gun at i think is was 57.9 mph if i remeber correctly... the stock xxx-nt sport is only supposed to get up to 40-45 mph, so you do the math very fast excelent run times, extra all yours for 140shipped

Dude nice try to sell junk,There is no way your friend can get 25 minutes of run time on a tank of fuel, and there is no way an engine can increase the top speed by 20 MPH.

you wanna bet?
dude inever even gave you the specifics of how he runs i where he runs it, how big his fuel tankS are. or aything like that and yes it is possible for an engine to increase speed by 20 mph! Escpessialy if its ported! So unless you don't know the facts about the car it is run in don't bash my statement
