how hot should a motor run
#17
i had a picco that got up to 340. It was running great until all the sudden it started making this strage sound. Pulled out my temp gun and wwhhhooaaa! shut the mug down.
Still is in good shape
i would say anything over 300 is pretty bad. My vspec runs anywhere between 220 and 260
My ninja between 180 and 220
but it took me a long time to realize that temp guns are next to useless. they are good for the aformentioned scenario and after a long run or a main etc etc.
if you rely on a temp gun, you just might find a perfect tune, but change it because it's not the temp you want. Then my friend you are destroying your engine.
especially when it is new. After a while you can lean it out more. But not before it's ready!!!

I have an RB WS7T that runs at 264 most of the time. It has 8 gallons on it and feels great. But I think those L2G's temp funny.
Now I have two of those Werks B5s that both like 200-220.
I just run it where it wants to run, makes good power, and doesn't smell hot.(most guys probably know what I mean by this. It just smells different when it's too hot.)

The topic is a good question, and I know the answer has been covered, becasue it varies from one engine to another, and one driver to another.. But generally it is 260-275.. That said I have 3 different engines and every one of them keeps a different temp..
In My truggy I have the Sirio/ExTech .24, and it is crazy powerful at a max of 210. I've seen another leaned out to get it to 235 and it was ballistic..
In my Buggy I ran a Sirio EVO IV, very similar to the Extech, but it like 230-240 best.
IN my T-Maxx I have a Picco .26 Max.. It like 280 or above.. I bough tit used from a guy I race with. He said don't worry about temps that engine will handle it.. He oval raced that engine, before I got it.. He had seen 350 from it before. The week after I bought it I was running it through some tall grass at WOT, and came in and it temped at 395. I fueled it putted arounda bit and it dropped down to abbout 310, and has run fine ever since..
So like said tune to performance and smoke and you won't have any problems..

I don't have temp gun and never used one to tune with. If it was running too hot you will wipe out the glow plug first. It seem most have losted the art of reading the glow plug. It is right where all the temp is at it is the first thing that is effected by it
