Does anyone know the size of the Hudy set up board?

Has anyone tried the home depot "Plexi-glass" setup boards? I got a 3'X3'X1/4" sheet of it for about $15.00. They even cut it for free! Now I got a super solid, straight setup board. The good thing about this is, you can have them cut the board to whatever dimension you want. My board is 17"X17". I like my boards big.

How can they charge $60 for a flat plastic board! It can't be super-extremely flat anyway, because it will flex and lose its precision. Besides, that kind of precision isn't noticable.

There are alternatives... Don't get me wrong, Hudy makes excellent products. But their prices are a bit high, IMO.

I don't think that the Hudy board is plexiglass. I beleive that it is a fiberwood board covered with laminate (like your kitchen counter), but I'm not sure.

Consider visiting a custom kitchen counter shop in your area. They always have "scrap" material left over from sink cutouts.

There's also plastics companies. Here in my area, there's a place called Read Plastics. They have Plexiglass in more thickness and shapes than you could imagine. The scrap pieces come in various sizes, and they cost less than $10.

There are also alternative setup tools. Like this one from Yokomo.

Plexiboards warp when you leave in the sun (at least here in the south).
The Hudy board is around $26 (w/o that useless decal) and it'll never warp.

Hey stefan, they tell me that Maryland is in the South. Frankly, I refuse to accept that.

The Plexiglass board that I use is nearly 1/2" think. So far, I haven't had any problems with warping. I only paid $6 for it. My preference would be for a board made of Corian (sp?, the solid surface counter material.) Corian a very dense and durable surface.

I live near Atlanta and it gets REALLY hot here during the summer.
I had a Take Off setup board and left it on my table in the sun one day ---> junk!

You also have to make absolutely sure that it is laying flat when you transport it in your car. A friend of mine put his in his tire box and in the trunk ----> warped.

None of the people with the Hudy baoards have any of those problems, includingme know

I use a 5' X 3' folding table as my pit table and just bought the Hudy sticker and stuck it right on top. Works like a champ and it's always ready when you need it.

If you don't mind the weight and fragility, you can try using a piece of glass, maybe scrap from an old window or something.

Hmmmm-strange, I left my plexi-glass setup board in the floorboard of my 98 Nissan 200SX all winter with the heat blowing straight onto it for 4 months and its still straight as an arrow. Not only that, I know of people who have had plexi-glass type setup boards for 4+ years and they're still using them.

You can go to Lowes and get a piece of Shelfing, laminated white. Then you can put some TNuts with feet in and have a self leveling setup board for less than $7. Its very flat and doesnt warp.

I recently replaced all the counters in my mother-in-laws house and used the scrap to make a few setup boards for myself and fellow racers. It works great, I just used my router to round the edges. Very durable and cheap
