Servo Discussion
Hi all,
I am looking at buying a new servo for my TC3, mainly for competitive stock racing but eventually for modified racing.
Digital servos appear to be all the rage, however they are apparently slightly more power hungry on the battery.
My question is...
For stock racing, would I be better off buying a top-line analogue servo and saving some of that precious battery voltage?
Or do the benefits of digital servos outweigh the extra current drain?

If you have the budget for a digital servo, get one - runtime shouldn't be an issue in stock. Digital isn't a quantum leap from analogue though, so if you want to save a little cash analogue is still worth getting.

I was'nt concerned with runtime though, more concerned aboult the battery power or voltage that is getting to the car motor.
digital servo = less punchy car motor performance???
analogue servo = more punchy car motor performance???
Naturally in stock you need all the punch you can get.

You should not notice much if any difference in motor performance.
However you will notice some servo perfomance.
Digitals have several advantages over analog.
Are they 100%? No.
One of the main issues I see in my TC is power off of center.
Analog servo need to deflect so far to produce power, digitals produce a lot more power off center so they offer more precise servo control around the center point.

Cannot go wrong with a Futaba 9402 or a KO 2123. Either of these center EVERY TIME!!!.....can other servos do this....um....nope.

I am running the S9451, and it is an awesome servo. I have a 3PK HRS system, so the whole thing is setup digital, the advantage of my setup is I can make very slight changes to the radio system and notice them, rather than having to make more aggressive changes and not really noticing them. I definately recommend a digital servo, I dont think the voltage loss is noticable at all.

Still need a recommendation
The question remains unanswered. I am a n00b and am going to purchase a 3PK and am wondering which servos to go with. I saw a recommendation of a 9451. Any other recommendations for either servo?

As for running digital servos giving you less punch....NO...this is definately not the case.

For the EXPERIENCED racer, Digital (High Speed) is the way to go.
A Rookie or Basher, will never feel the difference and any good Standard servo will suffice.
In an Electric R/C Car with 6 cells, there will be no negative effects from using a Digital over Analog Servo.

I think if you plan on staying with the hobby for awhile, then cough up the cash for a digi servo. I run the 3pk radio with HRS receiver. So I need to run digital servos. Having gone to this system, I did not notice any performance loss to stock racing. I currently run a Futaba s9550 in my Yok SD for it's low profile size. Works great. No complaints. I also run an Airtronics 94757.

I have a high tech 525MG servo in my TC3. I not sure, but I think it's digital. It cost about $36.00 and is a major improvement. turns much faster than the servo that came with my radio. I'm using a Airtronics 3PS radio.

FYI,
I have not noticed any difference in battery life or punch..........All need is 4-5 minutes anyway.

Thanks for the replies.
One other question about digital servos.
Considering that digital servos produce more power around the centre of their travel, would'nt that make them feel more twitchy if the driver is used to slower analogue servos??
Any suggestions?
