A friend of mine and I just had this conversation and I think I get it. I have always kind of relied on front roll and weight transfer to the front to get the car to turn (rubber). We are going to try some things that include softer springs,lighter oil, sway bars and different roll centers to see if we can achieve the balance that Paul is alluding to.

Paul, I'm wondering why most people have their front diff set up tight and some have them set up stiff and still others run them both tight and stiff ?
By stiff I mean it seems that they use a thick lube on the rings and tight would be no slippage but free rotating. How does this effect handling and how do you run your diffs ?
I'm talking carpet.

I hope that you all had a great christmas, i know I did..
jag 88: (this all for foam tires) I have absolutely no technical info to back this up but here is how i feel about it.
A tight diff or a thick diff usually feel the same on center or initial steering. tighter or thicker should make the car less twitchy because their should be a more delayed reaction from weight transfer or steering ark to diffing, because when the diff is harder to rotate( tight or thick) it will take more force to do so (all based on when the front diff rotates it helps the car change direction), tight or thick should make that herder to happen. I think that a tight diff with thinner grease will be more agile in the center of the courner than a Thick lube diff, but i think a thick lube diff will steer more on power than a tight thin lube diff. Sorry even i had to read that 5 times to see if it made scence.LOL
I do normally run my front diff tighter than the rear, with the same lube. but thick lube in the front is good if you can keep the feel consistant, Thick lube will feel nice for maybe 1 battery but usually it wears off and changes quickly.
