4S ZIPPY Runtimes?
Running a 4S 20-30c 5000mah Zippy pack in a losi 8ight E with Mamba Max 2200kv esc and motor combo.
This pack is lasting 14.30seconds on the dot with the lipo cutoff set at 12.v throttle punch is reduced to 80%
I was told by castle that a (GOOD) 20c 4S 5000mah pack should get at least 20mins.
So my question is anybody else using this same set-up and what are your times?
Anybody else using the outrageously priced name brand packs?
Castle also said that a 5000mah is more of a basher pack not a racer pack. Who makes a 8000mah or 10000mah pack? Even so that shiz is gonna be $$$$
At this point I could not even finish a 15min main.
What runtimes would a 6S 5000mah get using a mamba monster and a 1500kv motor?

Here is what I learned saturday after racing my D8-E for the first time. With my MMM with a 2650KV castle motor and a 4s SMC 5000 40c lipo on a track with 2 huge straights (34 sec avg. laptimes) I went the entire 15 minute main, about 3/4 of the way on the last lap my battery hit cut-off but I made it home just fine. I was not full throttle on the straights every lap but only when going for a pass.
I am sure with a lower discharge rated battery I could have gone the entire 15 minutes no problem or maybe a smaller track also.

Runtime is dependent on a number of factors so you just can't say you should get X minutes with a 4s 5000 pack. The 2200 Castle motor is based off a Neu 1515 1y. A very good and powerful motor, but it ain't the most efficient from a runtime perspective. The Neu version of that motor pulls about 120 amps. Also, racing will always yield less runtime than bashing around.
I think you will be hard pressed to make a 15 minute main with a 4s 5000 pack and that motor. You will probably need to get a 4s 6000 pack.
Track size, gearing, and driving style also play a part. However, I have found that motor choice and voltage are the primary determinant as to how long of run time you get.
With a 4s 5000 pack I could make a 15 minute main consistently with warm up laps and a 1512 2.5d motor on a very large track. That motor only pulls about 78amps or so, so it is quite a bit more efficient than the version you have.
Generally speaking, if you want 15 minutes consistently, go with a higher voltage pack 5s or 6s and a lower KV motor. I run 15 minute mains with a 1700kv Neu and a 5s 4350 or the zippy 5s 4000 pack.

Im in so-cal. So the tracks are big and I am pushing this thing to the max....not just putting around. 14-15mins is good, just wish Zippy made some affordable 8000mah packs. Electric is so much faster than nitro but it's hard to race them anywhere with all the races being 20mins.

Jump up to 5s and get a 1700kv Neu. A 5s 5000 zippy will get you 20 minutes all day long. I ran up to 24 minutes in a race with that setup. for 15 minute drop down to a 4000-4300 pack. I have NEVER dumped after a year of running this setup.

I agree with Edumakated in that you should look into a 5S setup if you need consistent 20 minute mains.
I personally and another driver using a similar electronic setup on a track out here were able to dump Neu 1512 2.5D/F motors, MMM ESCs, and 6000mah and 6500mah 4S batteries in about 18 minutes when geared to be consistent with the fastest nitros.
Runtime is VERY depedent on your track configuration and how you gear.
I would say of the 4S packs out right now to consistently make a 15 minute main, you need to go with at least a 5400mah or greater sized battery pack. Not sure if you need a hardcased or softcased lipo, but if it doesn't matter, for the money the PolyRC 4S 6000mah pack works quite well, and only costs about $180 shipped from RC Lipos. I know its no Zippy cheapo, but it is a quality Enerland based pack. You can also see what SMC has in store as well as there prices are pretty cheap too for the quality you get.
