Default new to 1/8 racing, dont know how to setup my car

i'm getting into 1/8 buggy racing, and i dont know how to setup my car, i know all about droop and ride height and all that. i just dont know where to put them, and everywhere i look on the net all i can find is blank setup sheets, they dont really help if i dont know where to put the ride height or droop or what type diff oil or camber or whatever, i just need to get an idea of what to do, and the guys at the "local" track are a-holes, and they dont really care to talk to you if you arent a regular. i am running an ofna hyper 7 tq with a hyper .21 if that makes a difference, all coments will be welcome

Well best of luck with your setup. Sorry to hear that those at your local track are less than pleasant. This hobby has a lot of those "type" but there are a number of great guys as well. Keep with it and you will be whipping them on the track soon enough.

As listed above you can usually fined step sheets from the pros that are running your product. Those are usually excellent starting points.

From there you will only want to make minor adjustments. Again it's one of those things make an adjustment, run the vehicle and see if it changes in a way you like. Only do one thing at a time, otherwise you can not pin point your change that effected the handling.

I think most pro's will only deviate about 1 or MAX 2 different from your standard setup sheet on ride height, droop, and cambers. So if the standard ride height is 29, you could try between 27 and 31.

Also, punch you locals in the throat, they should be helping all newbie so that they can keep RC popular.

thanks for the info guys, but i have another question, i'm looking to get a good hi-torque steering servo, not to expensive of course. my hyper 7 catches as i turn, and it makes a clicking noise, so i took off the screw and turned the wheels by hand and they dont make the sound, and sometimes it wont even come back to center when i turn left, any idea what i should get, and where the cheapest place to get it is?

If your going to be racing this is one of the most important upgrades you can make. You really will not want to go too cheap on this.

ACE makes a great digital servo at a reasonable price. I'd try the 1015 or the 1313 on amainhobbies.com they are 99 or 77 depending on the model.

Sorry to hear about the locals not helping you out. You can get a Hitec 7955tg for just over 100.00 I spent 115.00 for mine and its a great steering servo

Hey if you want to save a few bucks, this servo has worked great for me in both my racing buggies. I race an older Ofna "Tank" and this servo takes it! About 190 oz/in of torque, .15-sec, great performance all around, all metal gear, my cost on these is about $17 bucks (not a typo), they just got a load of them in, I keep a couple spare on hand (so cheap!), but I have never had one go bad after three years. These are as good as the higher cost brands, made in the same factories. Ship time might be a little slow from China, but other than that you can't go wrong for the cost.

Price on there might show $30? When you create an account it should drop the price down to less, after your first order you become "gold member" and the discounts are crazy. Enjoy

Great thread. I have a Hyper 7 PBS and have the same questions. In fact, I just posted above about steering servos. I noticed a huge difference when I went to 6 volts and from the stock servo to a 5645 (160 oz-in). I'm thinking of getting a 7955 now as well.

My buddies keep telling me my car sucks, but I'm pretty sure it's the set-up, and the driver...LOL.

hell if they're 17 bucks i'll buy 2 (just in case). and yeah, i love my hyper 7 it runs like a beast and sounds good, i just hate the pull start, but a starter box will fix that. i mean it was 300 bucks, so why would i spend 800 building a losi 8 when i can buy an ofna thats rtr, i'm not looking to win any races, just finish them
