Folks, not a noob here, but have a question for those of you that run 48P. We run dirt oval, have been on 64p till recently. With the new MOTIV 17.5, we really need to switch to 48P. We have ran 48P in the past with the Slashes, but looking at different gear manufactures. We have ran Robinson steel and alum. in the past. In our 64P, we have been running Trinities. Not really crazy of the Trinity 64P we have ran this year, we have stripped a few and have not been tightening them up that hard. Seems the alum. is softer than some of the others out there. Not to mention they only give you 1 hole, so if you do strip it or the threads get soft, its toast.

Was looking at XRAY and Losi. Really like how XRAY teeth are rounded off on the ends, so if you get a few small pieces of dirt in the mesh of the spur, it shouldn't effect anything, but man they are expensive. What brands have you folks been running and impressed with? I know in the 64P field, we recently got some Tuning Haus gears, which appear to be made by the same folks that make Trinities. In my off-road cars I use Yokomo hardened steel pinions in 48p - they cost about half of the Xray aluminium ones.

I’d say the high bite smooth clay oval would be more along the lines of onroad. What do you run onroad? We typically run aluminum.

for 17.5T stock, I would run plastic pinions... used to be Parma was the only game in town but now there are all kinds of brands coming out of the woodwork offering them... I've also ran plastic pinions in my 13.5T 4WD buggy, never stripped a plastic pinion over the past 2 years I've been running them

I don't know of anyone that gears below 28T for plastic pinions, I would consider going with a larger spur to take advantage of having less rotating mass, even better if you can find some cut spurs for your car

Kimbrough has plastic pinions gears from 15T to 30T.
