Default Idea for LiPo storage

Was doing some research at work and read someplace that the big problem with a LiPo going south (other than the giant fireball) is the huge amount of caustic smoke. I have too small children in the house and the last thing I want is them breathing this crap should one of my LiPos puke it's guts out. Anyway I found a company that will make custom sized panel air filters and it hit me....what if I cut the end out of a .50 cal ammo can for a filter and create a steel baffle setup on the end with the filter. You would store your LiPos in a sack like normal inside this sealed can. If a battery pops the sack will handle the flame and the filter (hepa or carbon maybe?) would take care of a large portion of the smoke. I have cans, can order the filters and I think I have someone at work who can weld. I was also thinking of adding three steel dividers to separate the cells a little more (no use destroying all your batteries because of one dud).

Good idea?

Not a bad idea, though LiPOs typically do not spontaneously combust. They typically catch fire during the charge process, or right after damaging a pack in a crash.

When you're done using a lipo for the day and a couple hours later it's still the same size, shape and hasn't let the magic smoke out, guess what you've got a 99.9999999% chance that it's not going to while it's just sitting there. At the end of a race day my lipos are at 7.6v which is a fine storage voltage. They sit on my bench with all my other gear stored in a cool dry place out of the sun..I sleep pretty well at night. If doing all this stuff makes you and your family feel better/safer then by all means go for it, I just don't feel that it's necessary.
