Default Circuit Error when charging battery

i have a spc energ 4600 mah 7-cell nimh. a year or two ago i accidentally shorted the motors on my car. i have not used it since then. recently i tried to charge it on my duratrax onyx 230 with the manufacturer's prescribed settings. It charged for a minute then threw a circuit error. I tried a few more times with the same result. Do you know what could have caused it?
