I did get my RA's issue fixed, just now, and I will share it with you all.

When I picked it up, it had a lot of positive camber on the back. When I looked, the dogbones were bottoming out hard in the cups, like they were too long. I checked the manual, it has the same bones front and rear, and there were the correct part. Very curious.

After some trial and error, I have found that universal/CV shafts for TA01, TL01, FF02 and possibly TT01 work a charm in the rear. At the max droop the factory configured shocks allow, the "top" pin is near the edge of the groove of the diff cup, but in there safely with 0 degree camber.

Now to find a body I like Something like an old Skyline or something you'd see at a club rally....

Mate I will put you in contact with Peter one of our hard core rally gang he has a DF03 and he has that thing running great.. I know he is using Cyclone DCX Uni Shafts .. Un Breakable.. about 1mm diff with Tamiya .. Good to hear youre gonna join the ragtags... By the way Im not sure if you know this but check out some of the sweat ol skool rally group B bodies on D-Drive site under touring bodies.. thats where I landed my Lancia Stratos.. I also have these sweat rally tires we have tested and we use on the four vids that are out there ... And dont forget to also check the HPIRACING site with 2 new rally offerings that you might like.. Ill keep you posted..

That sucks Rube, condolences.

And my bad, I thought you meant SC style full blown 13.5's, not the little Hobbywongs. They'd do nicely. I'll check those bodies out - I have been chasing the Carson Audi Quatro, but it's nearly impossible to find a seller that speaks English....

I have found another little issue, a wobbly spur shaft. About to consult the manual to see what size bearing it should be running. Something is not right....

The video at castle hill looks great , not a bad track to start racing on jumps are not to big. Have been watching a few of the rally vids on youtube they look like great fun. Tamiya even make the suzuki swift rally edition now. Ive got the old ta02 celica rally would love to come and give it a run.

TA02 would be fine, they made a great rally car. Tough as nails, too.

.... and found my problem. There is a 8mm bearing where there should be a 9. No big dramas.

Bruce dont sit there and think about it any longer mate .. hopefully if the weather gods are kind we can all meet next Sunday at Casso for a run.. I know exacly the car mate great cars too the red diff casings .. I have one here in parts at the moment.. do you have the ABS Celica one or the Lexan??

The only things that lets us down on the vids is the use of a good high quality cam but were working on that too lol!!!

When i started racing a few years ago, i bolted a set of Oil shocks from a BV1 Nitro car onto my TT01 and found i could slide my fingers under the chassis almost all the way.

The idea of Rally style TC cars were floated around here a couple of years ago. Track idea was a TC track just made with hard packed dirt/clay instaed of ashpalt with very minor jumps. A couple of us wre thinking of jacking up our TT01's (most people would still have one lying around) and using bodies such as Lancers,BMWs etc with Tamiya rally tyres.

I might get the TT01 out and fit the BV1 shocks on again and measure the height. Always thought r/c rally would be cool

OK, I've been wondering how to do this "my way".

I has a plan

Start like this:

Then, add a bit of "I AM A DRIVING GOD" to the fray....

See where this is going?

I had a lot of trouble with the dogbones and run 60mm shocks.
After buying the hot bodies uni shafts from Ruben I found that they are 4-5mm longer than needed but I messed around with my spares and found that they fit on the back with traxxas 4tec rear hubs part number 4352 and drilled a 2.5mm hole for the grub screw and dremmelled the outdrive cups slightly as the hb uni pin is just a bit bigger. The rear hubs have 1.5 degree toe in so you can have 4.5 degree toe in or flip them and have 1.5.I am now hunting for the right front hubs so I can use the same shafts in the front.TL01 uni shafts are a direct fit but I didn't want to wait to fix the problem and the chinese brand alternatives are poor quality I had yeah racing TL01 uni shafts on the
car but they need too many mods just to last a few weeks

Mine are genuine Tamiya swing shafts. Should last a while... But what you've done sounds like a good permanent fix.

I saw this recently and thought it looked quite cool

http://www.redrc.net/2011/05/strc-sl...ss-conversion/

Being SCT based I would guess it's a bit larger than what you guys are thinking

Rubes, that Stratos body you were running, is that 1/10 tourer size? The DF03 RA bodies are bigger are they not?? I've only ever seen Subaru DF03's what else is there? Old school Lancia Delta HF would be cool.

If you have the slipper clutch for the df03ra a 70 tooth 48 pitch thunder tiger
sparrowhawk spur gear and slipper pads is a direct fit and you can use 28t to 33t pinion gears but I couldn't get enough top speed with it and needed to go
to a higher kv motor than the lrp x11 13.5 that I had in it also the associated
75t spur gear will fit if you run a 5mm drill through the centre.I think that this is a good rally car but getting parts could be a pain. The thunder tiger performs very well as a rally car and parts seem to be less of a problem but most of all running these cars is a ton of fun and relatively cheap compared to my other stuff and even with some speed difference between the cars running with the pack is easy enough to do or just rejoin the pack next lap around if you stack. The kind of fun we had running these cars is what got me into rc.

When Losi was having trouble selling the Street Weapon, they re-released it as the Rally Weapon with a few minor mods. It actually made a far better rally car than it did a tourer thanks to the enclosed drive-train and offroad heritage. If you're looking for something to run, chasing one of these up could be a good option,
