I must say the Clocked JL is pretty awesome, and for the money the performance can't be beat.. My ONLY complaint is fuel mileage.. My stock Orion makes better fuel mileage, but it ain't as smooth or forgiving as the Clocked JL..

phew.... i thought i was the only one with that problem

I run mine on small tracks with S&W fuel and a picco carb with a 6mm insert and I make 10 minute pit stops. I will admit it's probably the worst fuel milage of all my engines, clocked or stock but I don't care. I love it and someone told me one less crash every race makes up for the one more pit stop so it's really not that big a deal. Ryan Maifeld pits more with his reedy's but it's not hurting his results much

well, after a deceptively easy breakin (i was used to go engine!) , yesterday i went out and got a nice tune to my clocked b5 and... damn! i tought that my GO 7pt was revving great ! were i used to have enough space to stretch the legs of my go 7pt, with neals b5 im running out of space
and i can definitely see that this engine breathes better that the stock engines i've had before. tuning is very straightforward. engine temps stay very on the cool side, even after multiple agressive passes on the street with a good tune, engine stayed between 195-200 and dropping as soon as i was idling.
and what an idle, over a minute to empty the tank without a hickup.
now if the rain could stop...
i need to race...now!

Tho they definitely wont set any mileage records..they can get decent runtimes if you tune them too...run the idle gap really tight, and the LSN a little leaner to compensate.... The JL will run really well over a broad range of idle/LSN settings...the bigger the idle gap you run, the harder on fuel the engine will be...Another thing we found is the engine gets better mileage with cooler plugs..our favorite pipe is the JP3....Tho no matter what you do it will never match the runtimes of the mod B5's, but i do think you can get decent runtimes with it.....

Glad to hear its running good....let me know when you have about 1 gallon and I will gladly walk you thru what you need to do with the head...Right now your engine is set with extra head clearance to help aid the breakin process....However that extra clearance will reduce the power and RPM some... Another thing is that extra clearance will make it easier for the engine to make temp, when we reduce the clearance it is going to want to run cooler.......

If I could justify it, I would order 2 of those Discovery's and send them your way for some messaging. But since it looks like I am going to race about 5 total times this summer, I can't justify it.. Maybe next year..

Not knocking you at all, I know it is jsut th nature of that engine. I can get 9mins in a buggy on huge wide open track, but get 10+ in truggy with Orion Discovery..

Well just got home from a 3 hour drive and thought i would share my week ends race met with you guys, arrived saturday afternoon and got the B6 & 2058 which is in my hot bodies buggy out and put another 500ml through the tank so that come sundays racing i would have put a total of 1.750ml through this engine, last tank of the day i timed it from full to empty and it ran 9:46 at temps of 208f.
Sundays first 20 minute heat i leaned the bottom end 2 hours and out i went, the motor was pulling hard and feeling great, finished first in my heat by a full lap and the motor temped in at 230f ( hsn still flush have not touched it at all )
2nd 20 minute heat I leaned the lsn another hour and out I went, the engine was feeling really rich down low and blowing a good amount of smoke, almost like it had open itself up during the first 20 minute heat, I finished first again but this time on the same lap and the engine temp was 181f.
During the 3rd 20 minute heat I leaned the lsn another 2 hours and the hsn 1 hour and during the warm up i heard the engine lean up top so i pulled in and went back to flush on the hsn, I finished first again in my heat and the engine temps where 212f, I placed 4th overall with 3 faster guys in the other heat but it was a good first meeting for the engine.
I was suprised that the motor is happy running the hsn flush and the lsn is sitting about 1 1/2 full turns out from flush and the motor has plenty of power and a great return to idle after WOT, the pipe has that evil clocked werks growl to it down the straight and I love it.....

Good racing at the Nitro Pit last night, this was my third race with my Clocked B5 in buggy and my first race with new Clocked B5 in truggy. This time out I was able to qualify in second behind TLR driver Casey Peck and two JQ drivers in third and fourth Greg Singletary and little fast man Tanner Stees. In tuggy I was able to TQ putting in a nice 9 lap 7.04 run on Q2 almost running 10 laps I messed it up on the last lap lol. My buggy felt like it was faster then ever this time out, she's at that 1 gallon mark and making insane power. Truggy felt super dialed engine running very very good nice and smooth with no issues, just need to get more fuel thru her and pull a head shim out. During the buggy main I had my usual bad luck and was sent to back just after the start, not a problem if you have a clocked engine right..... After settling back into my rhythm and fending off hacker master of year Ross Denny I was able to drive my Mugen MBX *6 into second with a good lead over third place young local fast kid Brandon Akiyama. *The Truggy main went super smooth one of my best runs ever. Once again after getting that darn Ross Denny off my tail I was able to drive away putting just about two laps on the field by the end of the race. My new Clocked B5 ran super smooth the entire night getting about 11min of run time and have probably a half gallon on in. I cant wait till she fully break in, it will be unstoppable....... * Big thx to Neal and John for there help and support people are really starting to take notice of these engines out here in AZ.......... **
