Alum pinions wear quicker

Noob question: Do you guys actually feel the difference in this type of thing? A pinion gear is subject to more wear than pretty much any other gear on the car. I would have thought it would be better to have the pinion hardened steel. Same thing for outdrive hubs, they experience a lot of force and wear. With the brushless systems and Lipo batteries do you really need to concern yourself with rotational mass or is it just fun to tinker with this type of stuff?

Well, it definitely IS fun! But yeah, you notice this things in spec racing The less rotational mass, although it is only a small difference with the lightened pinion gear, its enough to save me a couple degrees of temperature on my motor, as well as improve my motor's efficiency and run time (probably only a few seconds but its something ) and then I'll also have a little bit more responsiveness to my throttle input. All three of these things can be important in spec racing with all of the timing I'll be throwing at my car but i'll be sure to let you know how it works out for me in a week when I get a chance to run everything

The weight of the pinion makes practically no difference in performance.
The biggest difference between the two is the price and the fact one lasts for months instead of just few heats ....

Spec racing a motor temp, a couple of points I didn't consider. I used to race stock many moons ago and weight was everything.

Wild Cherry....14,000 posts?!? That's like 3 computers worth of posts. That's amazing!

I've heard that acetone takes it off pretty easily. Never tried it myself.

Hi everyone, I'm new to the electric rc race scene, I was wondering what is the best gearing to run on an indoor hard packed clay track? I currently have the brushless rtr b4.1, and any other hop ups or things I need to change or add? Thanks

New tires! You'll want to get a set (or two) of new tires because the RTR ones are not the best for indoor clay

With the stock motor? That is a little short on the gearing. You would want something more around 29-31/75. It'll take some of the torque and give you better speeds. Just be sure to watch the temperatures. I'm not sure how well the RTR motor holds up. Honestly, the next purchase you should make is a new motor The RTR one is okay for now but when you DO upgrade, it should be the first thing to go!

SHWEEEEEEEET!!!! New B4.1 Bulldog body on the way with the older Jconcepts Illuzion body. The older discontinued one I like it MUCH more than the new 'Hi Flow' body
