AB Modded .28XZ? JEEE ZUSS!
That little 'pede wouldn't know what to do with it all!
By the way, no that engine will not be a direct fit! That engine is made for 1/8 Truggies! You will have to do a lot of modifications to fit that beastly thing in there.
When I had my old Traxxas Nitro Sport SE, I placed in an OS Engines 18CVRX. That engine had PLENTY of rip and was probably the best engine I have EVER owned, even over the Axial 28 1S I have in my Savage. That CVRX never altered in tune one bit and was reliable from one day to the next without any concerns. I had to do a bit of shoehorning to get it in there, and you won't have the electric start option anymore, but I believe you would be quite happy with it. The OS fired up so consistantly you usually didn't have to use the pullstart more than 2 or 3 times.

Yeah, gear the thing to the moon and it would still spin the tires more than anything or probably standing backflips. Then you could still probably break the speed limit on the highway! And that is talking just the stock clutch, can you imagine what it would do with an aluminum 3 shoe clutch? It would be interesting to see thats for sure. It would be one killer drag racing MT with a wheelie bar!
If I right in thinking, got_nitro, didn't a few guys on here get into a contest to see how fast they could get a nitro Revo going? And didn't one of them use a modded .28XZ to get a Revo going 70mph? I can't imagine what it would do in a Stampede. If I ever did it, I would change the name of the truck from Stampede to "Traxxas Bumrush!"

As fun as that sounds, I don't think that the Magnum 272 (or whatever number it is) transmission that they use on the Stampede would be able to handle that kind of power. I'm still kind of shocked that my old Nitro Sport held together with the 18CVRX. Believe me, it had no issues with doing wheelies on command and then going about 55mph, but a modded 28?
