i have a spektrum DX2S with the stock receiver. i do not use the telemetry in the receiver and am looking for one with a farther range. i flew helicopters with a futaba 9 channel radio with Fasst. are there receivers that have the same range as aircraft radios? i have heard that marine receivers have close to the same range as air radios? true, false?

i guess i really cant give you an objective answer for each. the range i get isnt bad, but im used to an rc helis range. (airborne range) i guess that is what im looking for, 1/4 mile?

Do air radios really have better range in equal conditions? Or just appear better due to less interference from ground objects, wiring and such? Thought they have the same FCC power limits, but not sure.

Curious, a ¼ mile is way past my range. Is this for a first person view or whatever its called camera deal?

I doubt a different Spek RX will get you any further distance the TX power is the limiting factor

My Slash 4x4 with Spek 3300t has no problems getting too far for me to see it, beyond where it is useful

no, i never flew that far away but i flew farther than i can drive my vorza. the range isnt bad, i was just wondering if i could increase it with a better receiver, but youre right, its the transmitter that would need to be different. hmmm.

at IRCHA heli jamberee every year, pro pilot do auto's where a 90 size heli is a speck or into the clouds before they shut it down.

How are the receiver and antenna wire mounted? That can make a difference. Get the antenna as vertical and high as possible. Preferably away from other wiring and electrical stuff. Make sure there is no damage to the antenna wire. Don’t crimp/bend the end of the wire over with a cap, use a longer antenna tube.

Is the range inadequate in all driving conditions, or perhaps just when punching the throttle? If just when punched, could be the voltage to the receiver is sagging too low momentarily. A cap on the receiver (aka stutter stopper/glitch buster) can help, or an external BEC setup, last resort a receiver battery.

Suspect there is a solution. I don’t do any of the above stuff, yet I’ve given up on doing a range check with any of our Spektrums, I can’t see far enough. But I am rather old and creaky.

haha! nice! i dont think my range is currently limited, was only seeing if it could be increased because i have gotten out of range at a park with 3 soccer fields. rccaraction did a vorza speed project car where they wanted more range to get up to speed, they used a dual antenna MARINE receiver. the arials were considerably longer then the single arial on my current one. ???

This was a 2.4Ghz range test of Futaba 4PK, 4PL - 1330feet, Futaba 4PKS - 1510' and a HPI TF-20U - 700'. Definitely not line of sight and not open terrain (although not sure that would make a diff).
