what is the difference? can a cyclic servo be used for car steering?

thanks

Cyclic servos are 'micro' size for use in helis (at least the 450 size helis). 'Standard' servos are larger, full sized servos. They are not going to be interchangeable.

If the cyclic servo has enough torque and you can mount it, there's no reason it wouldn't work though.

I'm not a heli guy but as I understand it cyclic servos are not limited to any size, they are just servos that are lightning fast AND powerful to control helis with more speed and precision. The term cyclic just means that they move the swash plate back and forth very quickly in response to gyro and pilot input. They need to be fast and strong to change the pitch of the blades under load.

I use a JR 8717 for my Baja's throttle/brake and it's awesome, snappy throttle and powerful brakes with a single servo. I think that servo may be too fast for steering, but I guess it depends on what you're using it in.

Not quite accurate.

I am a heli guy, now trying cars. Larger helis (.50 and .90 size helicopters) will use high-speed and high-torque, standard sized servos for cyclic control.

The word 'cyclic' basically translates to pitch and roll control for the helicopter. Its just what the servo manufacturer may intend the servo for. You may also see some heli servos described as tail servos (still could be a standard size servo) but is a servo that has a priority on speed rather than torque.

Savox SC-1258TG
Align DS610

Check out these two servos, one meant for cars, the other for helis. I believe they are the exact same servo and I do understand that Savox makes the Align re-branded servos.

But like the man said: If the shoe fits, wear it.
