Default Tekin RS Problem???

Hello everyone, i was in the middle of plugging in my Tekin RS esc to my lipo batteries when i noticed the wires on the battery and the esc all of a sudden started to heat up. i immediately unplugged the battery and noticed my esc smelled burnt. after waiting til it cooled down i tried plugging it again and it did not turn on at all. i thought i just ruined my esc but when i got home, i plugged my esc to my laptop using Hotwire and the lights turned on. i then tried using another set of lipos and still no luck. can anyone help me figure out what just happened and if there is anything i can do. Thanks.i
i use a 2s 5400mah 35c lipo with deans. i made sure i plugged pos. with pos and neg with neg.

Where electronics are involved, if you smell anything (or see ANY smoke at all), it's usually too late. If you tried another battery and it will not power up, I'd say it's hosed and you need to get it serviced.

thats what i thought but what gave me hope was the fact it still turned on (red lights blinking) when i connected the esc to my laptop. if it was damaged, wouldnt it not turn on at all??

Sounds like you burned out the FETs. Those are the components that manage the power in the ESC.

When you plug in the Hotwire it lights up because you bypass the battery circuit.

Nope.. you can toast an ESC, but still get it to light up when powered on. Happens when you plug - into + and + into -.

Yeah.. It sounds like your controller is toast.

Hop on the website... www.teamtekin.com and check out the Live Chat. One of the guys there will get you setup with an RMA to send it in.

I did the samething lastweek to my Rs Pro . From what I was reading on another forum the Rs Pro full replacement cost is only $109(cheaper for a Rs model). Works for me. I'm glad I don't have to buy another unit.

i'm still trying to figure out how the heck i burnt my esc! i'm pretty sure i plugged the wires in the right way. i am very paranoid about making sure i plug in the wires in the right hole after ruining my GTB a while back. could it be the settings i programmed through hotwire? i actually copied A Haras setup on tekin's site the night before i ruined my esc. could that have caused the problem? anybody have any idea??

Bad lipo with cold solder joins that bridged ?
Some lipos tend to fail during Hot races and then the lil board that wires the Lipos cells up touch each other.

I have seen 2 of the same brand Lipos, purchased from the same place at the same time that have the (+) and (-) reversed from one battery to the other. He burnt up his RS before he noticed it.

It could be the solder contacts to your motor touching. If you dropped your car, or took a hit on the track. it could bent the motors contact posts together. Also check the cap wires to make sure they aren't shorting out.
