Default Starter Boxes

I bought a starter box from my LHS only to have the motor smoke on it's first run. It's been back there for over 2 weeks awaiting parts.

I am now looking at buying another box which I won't have to wait at least 2 weeks to get parts for and was thinking about the 1/10 duratrax universal box. It uses twin 540 motors instead of a single 775 motor so I'm guessing it would be a lot quicker to get replacement motors, not to mention parts from the states only take a week to get here.

Has any one got any comments regards this box? Is there a better one?

My current car is all shaft drive so the flywheel is east-west across the chassis but that will probably change with the car.

i've got 1 of them monstrous Q-world LC1101 starter box. blardy heavy motor and even heavier battery

if u are will to pay at bit more, i hear that the SERPENT starter boxes are good for onroad and MUGEN ones good for offroad. they are both light and compact.

I had the same problem, So I brought a Mugen one with the twin motors and it works great.

Online hobbies sell them cheap compared to my LHS so maybe give him a look.

Thanks for the advise guys.

Some people have also been telling me that tiger boxes are virtually unbreakable. However, this is a Tiger box and it finally came back this afternoon. The problem is it took 3 1/2 weeks to get a motor for it.

Those murgen boxes look obtainable here. Does a standard 540 motor bolt in? If so, I'll put getting one on my todo list
