I currently have a mamba-25 with a 9200kv motor combo but the esc fried after some wires crossed. I really don't have the cash to do a direct replacement so I would like to know what I could use with my brushless motor for an ESC? Is there a cheaper combo(esc and motor, brushless) replacement that I could pop in there? It doesn't have to be a 9200kv...it could be a 5400kv or 7200kv combo if there is any because the 9200 was overkill but is what came with the car. I prefer torque over top end also. I am running 6 cell NiMH and a MX-3s controller. I know I am a little out of date but this is more for fun than anything else and it is a relatively cheap hobby...until this. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Except maybe a $21 25A EZRun ESC. I have not used a Mamba 25 for years, but I still use Sidewinders and Micro Pros, and I prefer my EZRun any day. For $7-8 extra you can get the programming card and make trackside adjustments in seconds. The "wildest" motor I have used mine on are the CM26-68 and everything runs cool. I dont know what motor you have, but the 25A is usually good up to 26mm motors in the lighter 18th scale cars, but you may want the 35A for heavier vehicles or larger motors. The 35A and 25A both are the same size, but the 35A comes with a fan on top; the fan can be removed for 18th scale use if you don't have enough clearance.


Of course I will always recommend Castle because I think they are reliable and have some of the best customer service. But when it comes to honest to goodness performance for your dollar I believe you will find the EZrun to be on top.

what if the repair has been hot glued(somebody other than myself) to help inuslate the wires? will something so obvious be repaired by them? the three wires that go to the rx have been exposed at the connection and i let a computer buddy repair them(my mistake) and he hot glued them so they would not move or touch...do you think that could still be warranted or have you seen worse:?

It doesn't matter, I've seen burnt to a crisp, nothing but cinders and some wire left fried escs sent back and they get totally replaced at the flat fee. Castle will repair it or replace it completely for that $30 flat fee cost given on the support area. This is not warranty, so it really only matters that you have something to send back (has to be same type esc though).

As fussy as Castle is about their esc, I bet most sent in for repair are tossed in the trash and a new one sent out as replacement.

I agree, Castle flips so many new motors and speed controls out of their building every day its nuts. I have also seen ESC's burnt to a crisp from physical damage and they replace it under the flat rate.
