My ft sc10 had the same thing. It turned out the threads on the screws were cut a little sloppy and made the diameter too big. I cleaned them up with a file. The shank of the screw is the right size once you get past the threads.

Thats blokes, I just took some fine wet n dry paper and just took the black of the thread and a little off the shank, and it is now perfect, only have the shocks and electric to do.

Before you go and do that, just make sure that all of the bearings are seated properly. When I built my B4.1 I didn't have any issues. When I built my T4.1 the transmission would barely move when the case was tightened. I took it back apart and noticed that the top shaft was sticking out 1/32" further than the idle gear and the diff gear. Here, one of the bearings was not seated all of the way. Once I got them seated properly the transmission was super free, no matter how much I tightened the case. I have not needed to do this mod at all on either vehicle. Then again I could just be lucky, but double check the top shaft bearings just in case.

That's just an old B4 picture i nabbed online to show where i put the washer. I rebuilt my tranny very carefully after the problems i had before and made sure everything was seated properly and still no dice.
I went through and torqued every screw by itself and tested for freeness, all was fine until the wing mount screw was torqued. Messed with washers and finally got the right setup with the one washer shown in the pic.
