hey guys got a problem with the mugen clutch with this motor. now i wont say im an expert clutch guy but im damm good i mostly run jp's but i bought this motor with the long shaft and it wont stop shredding shoes im running a mugen, now ive tried 4 shoe setup and 3 i went changed the whole clutch to brand new 2 times on each setup, i have tried red yellow grey and black shoes it shredds them all in a half of tank of gas. my normal setup up id .6 gap with .2 end play on my jp i have not lost .1 millimeter in 5 races anyway. i have tried every setting possible from .2 gap to .10 spring from the cap just barly on and all settings inbetween to tight enuff motor wont move i tried from no end play to .6 it just keeps shredding shoes im wondering if anyone else having a problem, my freind has the same motor with serpent setup and not one problem.... thanks

Pretty sure the 353 has a diffrent bearing Mitchell have a look on the nova site for part numbers.

Front bearing will be rough and noisy when the engines on. Its usually the rear bearing that goes on mine not the front.

thanks Jason, i thought it might be the front bearing as it all of a sudden was a pain to tune. flames out and doesnt hold a tune. i checked the o-rings on the carb and back plate and they looked all ok.

hey Mitch , what brand of plug are you running and what number.

it could be a number of things, but have you checked the pinch on the sleeve? if your liner is worn low compression will make a motor very erratic and cause it to stall once its up to temperature. other then that check the part no. of the front bearing on the novarossi website for your motor, should also have a size of the bearing on the explosion for the motor. also if possible stick with a rubber sealed bearing for the front.

In your opinion what engine would you choose for 1/8 igt/ofna class racing? The S21P5XLT or the N215T engine.

I would go with the N215T. Its an on-road specific motor and will turn more RPM. Get an on-road specific pipe, 086 series works great, a medium length and short length buggy header to see what works best.

Would I be losing some torque if I go on-road engine? Aren't 1/8th on-road cars lighter compared to an 1/8th igt?

Maybe, but on-road engines make more power everywhere. They have aggressive crank and port timing. You can also move the power band around slightly with pipe choice. Of course you can also gear the car to take advantage of the RPM/torque characteristics and capability. The GT nats open class run by Ipanema was won with a Novarossi Flash or 35 plus 21. Overall good on-road engines make more power everywhere but the powerband is moved higher in the RPM range. Off road engines run out of breath fast on big on-road tracks.

You need to think complete package. Clutch setup, pipe and engine combo, then tune for the traction and length of track.

the engine has still got heaps of pinch only about 10-13L old. i got the right number know for the bearings thanks for your help
