My Clockwork JL ran great today, ran so good it made me $75! Well my driving helped alittle! I entered a cash race today with my truggy(25 entries), $25 to enter. First place paid $175, second $100, and third I think $75 or $50. I qualified second and finished second to my buddy Anthony Mazzara, AGAIN! Man is fast, smooth, and consistant, if I lose to him I don't mind. He runs a clean race and will drive around you not thru you!

Today I ran a O.S. P5, did not take much to dial it in from the P6 I ran last week. Engine ran awesome, more than enough power, and came off the track at 208*F with almost half a tank of fuel left. I pitted at the 8 1/2 mark. Sure I could lean it out more but it is scary fast now as it is. The high pitch is a distinct sound that reminds you of a onroad engine blazing down a back straight.

Ok guys I have been having some issues, and need your help.
I got the JL mounted, and it fired right up, I have ran 20 tanks thru it so far and here are my issues.

1. My temps are a little high for my thoughts, idle sits about 195, after a few minutes of running hard temps climb to 230-250 with smoke at WOT.

2. The car dies if I let it set for a minute when I hit the throttle, like it chokes down or its to fat.

I am running a JP3, Pico P6th plug and 25% Byrons

Any help you guys can provide me will be greatly appreciated, I have a race this weekend and I am looking forward to running the JL, as long as I can keep this beast running.

throw away the temp gun ! tune by sound ,feel and performance....temps are meaningless and chances are high your gun is giving inacurate readings anyways.......the worst thing you can do is monitor temps and try to tune based off a temp gun

I'm going to assume that your clutch and bearings are in good shape, and that you have no air leaks. That being said,I never tune to temps, anytime I used my temp gun while I was trying to tune any engine, I had tuning nightmares. 230-250˚F is where I like to run my engines. I don't like to run my engines cooler than 220˚, or hotter than 270˚. So your temps are fine.

But seriously, I don't even take my temp gun to the track anymore, it stays in my shop, and I mainly use it for breaking in a new engine.

It sounds like your LSN is a tad rich to me..if your loading up and stalling after a minute. Does it make a blubbering sound before it stalls ? Then it's rich. Does it idle down fast after WOT run? I know that the idle on this mill can be finicky at times, but generally, it runs great.

Stock engine right ?

does it still have tons of pinch ?

what fuel do you run ?

You can definitely remove 1 shim on the stock engine...however I wouldn't be doing that till the engine is fully broken in and you have the tune somewhat settled.....However if all else fails removing a shim may actually make it easier to tune with a rich needle setting.... higher compression makes it more able to burn fuel...

when you say you have run 20 tanks, what exactly are you doing during those 20 tanks ?

NitroFreakManHo-

Clutch and bearings are all new, it does make a blubbering sound when I hit the throttle and then dies. It does not idle down very fast after WOT either!

Maximo-
Engine is stock

Tons of Pinch

Byrons 20%

The first 8 tanks I did small circles at half throttle, then started leaning it out.
I have a 1/4 acre area near my house the I run the car on, a few sharp turns and a few bumps here and there, to similate some what of a track environment.

I was wondering the same thing you mentioned about pulling one shim to see if it helps out any.
