re-pinched nova ns3
#1
I have a novarossi .12 engine here i have bought secondhand. it was for a fair price, and expected it not to be perfect. It would be going on a parking lot basher.
I have just come to find out it has been repinched. When asked if it had been repinched the seller said ''yes and the engine is totally modified, the specs are copied from murnan, that motor was as fast as any other modified motor out there-including murnan engines,I raced a kyosho rrr" I was unaware that it had been modded but i know buying used engines is always a crap shoot.
The pinch is VERY tight, and feels strange, (as if the P&S was dry and unoiled, which it isnt) at this point i can only assume it needs to be run-in. Are there any special instructions for breaking in a very tight P&S?

Pinches work fine if they were done right.
I would say pre-heat the engine with a heat gun before trying to start it, and avoid turning it cold by hand. it needs to break in just like a normal engine, heat cycle or whatever you like, just go easy on it till you feel the pinch getting looser.

Thanks for the reply
I have given up on this p&s set for now. I ran it for about 4 tanks easily and the pinch at operating temps is still way too tight. The engine doesnt seem very happy.
Anyways, i put another (what looks) slightly used P&S set in the engine that the guy included as a spare. It still has great pinch at TDC, so im going to give it a try.
The guy says he was running 20% nitro, there is no shim under the head button. Should there be a shim under there?
This engine is a NS12S3 if that helps.

Send that P/S to RayARacing and have him repinch/check it out. I have had him do some work for me, he knows what he is doing. if it was pinched incorrectly, he can probably fix it.

Hey Scott, I was wondering about that guy, good to hear you are pleased with his work, i have several P&s sets i can send him. I stumbled on his site a couple weeks ago, he does look like a guy who knows what he's doing.

Turbo, As mentioned above ship the set to me for match to be corrected. At least 25% of my work is correcting poor matches.
