Gearing: Spur & Pinion
#1
I'm told the fewer teeth on the pinion=more torque and acceleration is this true for spur as well? Also what are some good combos as far as spur & pinion together for off-road and paved? I run slash 2wd specifically using the upgraded spru and pinion that came in the rtr kit. I am currently lookin to decrease lap time on paved no jump course. Thanks to all replys.

Basically, the smaller the pinion the more torque the motor generates at the wheels, but at reduced speed. You can try playing around with a 21 speed bicycle to get a feel for it.
So if you decrease the size of the pinion, the motor doesn't have to draw as much current and it doesn't get as hot, but you won't go as fast. Increasing the pinion allows you to go faster, but the motor will get hotter since it has to push more current to achieve the same torque at the wheels.
The gearing depends on the type of vehicle you have and the motor. If you post that info, I think people on here can tell you what they have found to work.

Gearing on a Slash is tricky, it is a pig. The fine balance of speed & heat come into play.
The size of the track & the number of turns dictates ratio a little bit.
The Stock spur is usually good enough, I used to use the 90t spur on tighter indoor tracks with smaller pinions.
Once I shredded the second spur, I switched to the Jato 0.8mod spurs... 56t & 58t with a 32pitch pinion 11, 12, & 13 tooth.
Setup & good driving will make a slower truck faster than the crazy speed demons on the track.
