The 2.1 will be their first spec speedo and its software is compatible with the 2.0 so it will outlast the tekin if that is due for an upgrade soon.

FYI I like buying new speedos. New toys are exciting and I like to solder
Craig, you make the assumption that SP 2.0 is actually an upgraded hardware and not just a software upgrade. Do we know this as a fact?

I think you will find that they are just software

Do you mean 2.1 Fish? I know the 2.1 software is compatible with 2.0 so there isn't anything substantial in the hardware. That's just my point though, Wayne was saying the Tekin outlasted the SP, but really the 2.0 looks like it'll be updateable for a while to come yet

If you mean the lcd programmer used to update the software they have been out for a while. You can also use the HW box or venom make a motor checker that can also be used. Dan used one to updated the software on my Venom version of the GT2.0 pro speedo yesterday

Sorry mate but the SP GT2 has been and is software upgradeable through the LCD Programmer device since early 2009.

Yes I realised last night that I had missed seeing that and stand duely corrected... can't keep up with every brand

That being said... from reading SP's website it seems to me the SP software is still not as flexible as what Tekin is currently offering...

Sorry to disagree, these ESC have the same principles timing advanced on the motor.

How they work it the diffrence ... Shall say that Tekin allow a finer gradient of tunning. This can be an advantage also be a burden.

SP have a fixed set tunning threshold, again you can see advantages and disadvantages there.

Team Wave is another it has a Turbo or twin for the new one, this again has a fixed set of changes that can be made

LRP fixed again

In the example here 2 need PC's and 2 don't

I also own a BMC 1.5 which allow you to change how the throttle response act based upon where you finger is on Tx.. Same thing different smell

Until someone comes up with something new they are all the same it more how they apply it, change it more important deliver it.

12th scale racing at our track a lot of races turn off the turbo as it is not controllable, to get enough poke in the infield you need you run a high rollout but this changes the way tekin turbo kicks in.

This works in an opposite direction for TC 17.5.. All about the application and how it is delivered.

totally agree with this!

I always was told & thought MOD class was where - he with the most money wins - hellz no!!! Its the stock class. These ESC's that move the timing around has killed the "stock" class I think as well. But what to do about it?

The esc's have definately changed stock, but unfortunately they missed the boat big time in terms of keeping it a "stock" class. Now it has to run its course.... it will either just keep advancing and everyone will keep upgrading to the latest and greatest, or it will slowly start to die out as people either leave or go to mod where they dont have to upgrade there esc every 6 months. I think it will be the 2nd, it will die out and they will have to bring in new rules to bring down the cost of stock racing.

Just my 2c.

cant see them changing the rules. The manufacturers wouldnt like that and wont be good for the industry.

when you think stock is too much work, go mod.

With the timing advances should they be called 10.5 and 17.5 any ESC.

In Europe they are thinking about calling Mod '10.5' so in effect we are already there. Just re-label the classes.

Windsor have adopted 12th scale with 10.5 limit, most weeks it one of the biggest classes.

Most people are happy to have the latest and greatest it keep the technology moving forward how else would brushless and time advance motors arrive on the market.

We have to think about how it will effect clubs here, without the clubs there is no racing, remove there biggest class 17.5 and they move to a club which still races 17.5 with tekin or lrp..

Stock racing should replace 540 maybe even run 19.5t as stock motor and speed combo, have 2 Manufactures bid for the supply for a years contract? - Pass on the saves to new starts / people who want a controlled race format leave it to the driving and gearing. A sealed unit can be easy to control.

Would this class take off?

CraigM

Cant believe you are in Thailand just before the racing. Poor organisational skills .... or is the "better half" not keen to leave you in Bangkok for a while
