lipo charger ?
#1
I am getting some lipos and a charger this week. I found a pretty good deal at my lhs on lipos and am getting my charger from him also. should i get Common-Sense-RC-Proton-4-4S-Lipo-Balancing-Charger or DuraTrax-Onyx-230-AC-DC-Advanced-Charger-w-LCD-Display. the proton is 5.oo more than the onyx but it has its own balencer. I will be running losi saddle packs at first but may get into 1/8 electric later not sure if i would use 4cell or 2x 2cell for that.
I really want to stick to these chargers unless they do not fit my needs as i feel the price is good and like to buy local. I am getting a package on lipos and charger
thanks

The Onyx has no balancer and would need a separate one, but can charge up to 7amps and is AC/DC.
The CS charger will only do 4amps, but has a builtin balancer and is a DC charger (need a power supply). This charge rate is limited , willnot be able to do 1C charge on a 5000mah lipo (1C = 5amps for 5000mah).
Kind of a toss up, if you've already got a power supply, the Proton makes sense. If you already have a balancer, Onyx makes sense. If you're really considering 1/8 wher etehlipos will be 5000mah and up, get the Onyx and buy a balancer like the Equinox.

If you want to stay local then I would want the higher amps you get from the 230.
