Which controller?
#1
Well ive decided I want to make the jump to specktrum or at least 2.4ghz freq so that i can use the same controller with all of my cars, and not have to keep guessing with the crystals....
So now i have to choose, futaba or spektrum?
Futaba:
3PK 2.4ghz with FASST system
4PK 2.4ghz with FASST system (seems like a little much)
Spektrum:
DX 3.0 all the way to the top DX3r...
Basically I right now have 2 cars
AE TC3 with mamaba max setup (2s lipo 7700kv geared for speed)
Duratrax vendetta basher (3s lipo 3900kv ammo motor)
i will possibly be adding a couple nitro and some other electric so i want one controller i can just add recievers too...
Which would u sugguest, some seem like complete over kill...
I was thinking
3pk system
or
DX3s
whats this DSM2 technology is that something i should spring for?
THanks!

I have a 3PK that's about 5 years old and it's great. I don't think the newer models offer a lot more except an empty bank account. It has all the functions I need and more model memories than I will ever need (wifey is getting up to speed with my spending I think).
I say 3PK and spend any change on go-fast bits

i went and held both the 3pk DX3r and 4pk and the DX3r def. feels the best in my hands.
I do like how the futabas come with a rechargable pack right in the box...
Obviously feature wise i have no clue which is better, but have much more memory than models i own....

I like my 3pk alot.. I don't think I'ld like the DX3r very much, it looks very unbalanced to me.. 4pk is a good looking trans, but have no experiance with em.
2 more you might add to your list to try out. Nomadio Sensor and Nomadio React. I have friend with a react and I like it a bunch.. And, would get one if I didn't like the 3pk so much.. The sensor looks akward, but I've heard they are well balanced..
Nomadio's are getting hard to find.. Used is about the only way to find one. I have heard Nomadio is starting to manufacture these again.. They took about a year of from making them for some reason. Too many military contracts ro some junk like that..
If you like the feel of the DX3r you might try the DX3s. Same basic shape and feel, but much much cheaper. I know it doesn't offer on board telem, but in a race i don't think your gonna be looking at the screen that enough for that kinda stuff anyway..

-The DX3S has telemetry the DX3R doesn't.
-The DX3S is DSM1 and the DX3R is DSM2 (pretty sure)
-I don't know that I would buy a radio from a company that stops making them on a whim, CS could be a problem. I haven't heard anything bad about Nomadio though. (never see too many around
)-One nice thing about Spektrum stuff is that if you ever plan to buy any Losi 2.4ghz stuff thier receivers will bind with any of the Spektrum radios. They won't bind with anybody else's 2.4ghz though. The Losi stuff is made by Spektrum.

If your going to go for futaba, then i would suggest to get the 3pm over the 3pk because the 3pm has almost all the same fetures, and you dont even use all of them. Also, it is 180$ on towerhobbies for a transmitter and reciever. If you buy from local hobby shop, they may have the free reciever deal still but im not sure. The only problem with futaba is that their receivers are expensive and kind of big. Spektrum is ok but is now owned by horizon hobbies i believe and their customer service sucks. I have spektrum in my m11 but i have the one from before they were bought out. The m11 is another choice but the real factors are money and feel. I suggest going to your local hobby shop and feeling all of their radios. what ever one feels the best is the one you should get.

I got the DX3S so i can monitor Temps on my Brushless TC4. Especially since I'm pushing the gearing for Speed as well.
My motor was getting hot, and now with the Telemetry i can monitor the temps and let off once i hit a certain threshold. It also allows me to see what my temps are after i change something on the car...
It just sucks i cant monitor voltage. If your running 2s lipo, then you can but you have to run a separate telemetry modal & Receiver. But it does not pass 9.9v, so it doesn't work for me since i run 3s.
But if i didn't want Telemetry, then i would of probably gotten a 3PK

The 4pk is an over priced 3pks. The have almost identical programming and they have the same 2.4 systems. Futaba made it for marketing, not to improve on an already well rounded radio system. $370 for the 3pks w/2.4 on towerhobbies or $500 for 4pk. what is your choice going to be????

Im an M11 fan but Ive used about every radio out there and the only one that is swaing me is the dx3r, its so frickin light and very easy to use, the response time is ridiculously fast, plus its a Spektrum/Horizon product and the cust service is fantastic, I wish all rc companies were as good as they are.
