Default O'Donnell TGX1 Temp. Gauge

Whats up guys. I just went and got a temp. guage so I can accurately tell the temp of my CC Sidewinder 5700. In the manual I see an 'Emissivity' setting. I`m just wondering if I should keep the default setting of 1.00 to accurately read the temp of my motor? I believe this particular guage is intended for nitro engines, anyone else using it for electronics?? Thanks

Not that particular one, but mine also is adj for emissivity. I've found the default is the best all around setting since I'm using it on a variety of surfaces - nitro plugs, batteries, lipos, esc, motors etc. If you are only doing one surface, can maybe adj it to make it more accurate (if its not), but have to have someway to calibrate. Thats the prob. If you've got a friend with a better or diff gun, maybe get an idea on how yours is reading. I used a Raytec for comparison and left emissivity alone after seeing it compared pretty good to the better temp gun.

I have that system too, Sidewinder/5700 and esc has never been over 140F, motor though likes to run around 180F.

I have the TGX1 and I have mine set at the default which actualy reads 100 on the screen. I've checked it against other temp guns known to be acurate and never had a difference of more than a deg. Be cautious with shiny surfaces though, like Novak BL motors. Never had an issue with shiny surfaces but it's possible. Mine is "dead on" with my green Castle motors though.

Cool. Thats about the same as my motor. 170-185, depending on the weather outside. And I do fool around with other things with it too, so I guess I`ll leave it alone. Appreciate it guys

Same here - tried 3 diff pinions and 2 diff spurs - no real diff. I'm going to try running a Medusa/MM and 3S and see if I can manage temps with that setup.

Hey, can you tell me if the built in stopwatch can measure lap times, like when i pass through the finish line and then press a button and stores that number and then it rests to 0:00 and stars again so when i pass finish lien again i do the same thing?

IIRC it just stops and then starts again, not logging each lap time.
