Okay, since I started such a turd storm with Mike and Raul about dropping sporstman.....let me explain a little.
Upon my first few practice sessions at RCHR, I was told that I would first have to enter sportsman class until I proved to be a good enough racer. I kinda shrugged at this idea and thought nothing of it as I had no intentions of running in that class. I have never raced at a track before that requires that racers basically pre-qualify for a club race. I was actually offended for a quick second at the thought of having to run sportsman. I also know that dude Will (who just won the series for that class) hasn't been driving an RC for all that long, but he's better then everyone in sporstman and even some in 2wd mod......but he's still in sporstman.
Believe me guys, I know we need the little ones around. (though I don't have any and never will) Without them, our hobby is done for. I just think it might be a better idea to refine the sporstman rules to reflect more of a novice setting or age restriction.
I agree that kids have to be welcomed and nurtured as much as possible in this hobby, but it couldn't hurt to have a B-Main every once in a while or like RB5 said.......throw em in the slash class.
Just some food for thought.

Yeh I know what you mean, but.....
RCHR no longer makes you run sportsman until you are deamed good enough for the other classes. They haven't done it this way for a long time.
You may want to verify the facts before you make a statement. Yes Will won sportsman back a few series ago. Will has been tearing it up in all the modified classes for a few months now. He won the winter series for 4WD mod. George Benedict won the last sportsman series.
The current crop of sportsman racers are exactly where they belong. most of them are young kids or people like Hilde and George B. who are into the hobby just for fun and know that they do not have the skills to run in a mod class. It is also used by racers who are just returning to racing and feel that they need a little practice to get the rust off.

Hey, Thanks Freddy! But no, I wasn't all that fast with 2wd truck.
Gotz me some Double Dees and a new (slower) motor so we'll see. I pulled 20 laps with my stock slash in 6 minutes, but I could only pull 17 with the mod truck.....
Yeah, I know who Mr. Wamolt is.........I was refering to Will (maybe it's Bill), that dude who drives the blue B4 with the Castle powerplant. I think it was for sale at the hobby shop for a while. Like I said, I know he's a newer RC'r, but he's still fast and running with other noobs isn't gonna make him any faster.

I think you're refering to Wild Bill. Yeh he ran his buggy in sportsman but runs Mod Truck on a regular basis. He is still getting used to the buggy.
I'm not a pround man either. I ran sportsman the first saturday I ran by B44 back in the winter. I had no buisness being in sportsman, but I got my due. I TQ'd by a ton and then got taken out by a newbie in the main, finished dead last and had to replace about $40 in parts from the crash!!! Never ran the class again....

I think I know who you're talking about, the guy who bought Nick's car, right??
Yeah, I talked to him and suggested that he should try out 2wd mod, he said he was gonna definitely give it a shot.
Sometimes it's intimidating, watching people like Kyle, Mark and some of the other faster guys running and wanting to run with them, many times novice racers are afraid of getting in peoples way. That's why you'll see some people stay in sportman for a while just to build their confidence.
You should ask Mike C., he only ran sportsman for 2 weeks and we started drilling him about getting out of Sportsman...

17 laps is respectable, Mod truck is a pretty intense class, we want to run as clean as possible, but sometimes end up making it a Slash Race...

I think the vibe of the class is very positive and I just might run it with either my VXL Rustler or the Slash if there is no other place to go. I don't know a good vibe trumps competition in my book which is why I love Slash so much. i could finish middle pack and still feel awesome at the end of the run. I don't mind if i have alot more experience then some of the kids/others running. I like the pat on the back people seem to get...it goes a long way especially when you finish low or don't make your best laps. I wish all classes could feel as good as Sportsman and Spec Slash.
Personally I know people race for competition and other things but for alot of us just having a good time and racing with some good buddies is better then a killer lap time.

yea freddy, i think that mod truck is very intense, from the holeshot at the tone to the last charge on the straight. also, with such close racing the runs are usually pretty clean; which is why i'v been in truck class for long time; 5 years now!

If we have low sportsman turn-out (1 or 2), we will put them in the mod class, but putting a mod driver in sportsman isn't something we typically do, we normally will mix 2wd/4wd/truck class for low mod entries.
Age restrictions in r/c racing don't work very well, since r/c racing is more of a learned skill/experience which can be aquired at virtually any age.

I was at a track once that had a couple 1/8 truggies on the track. I was working on passing one of them and after a couple laps I did. I was very happy as I was using my 1/10 B44. I then looked over and it was a 5-6 year old kid. The satisfaction quickly slipped away and went to embarrassment. LOL

Well my chances for mass just drped to 45% now.
Trying to keep a little extra cash in my pockets, 60 is already gone for drivers retraining for my speeding ticket.
But if i get this side job at my job then that 45% will jump to 75%. And if that happens i'll play the power ball.
And if i hit that then i'll buy everyone a 4wd buggy. Thats if you dont have one.
Cross your finger guys.
