Hey all,

I have a quick question. I'm looking to get some lipos for my 13.5BL touring car. The two I am looking at is the ORCA 4000mah lipos. There are two versions: 25C and 35C.

With this motor setup, will I feel the difference/need the extra C rating in the battery? I'd rather save the money if possible, but will get the higher C rating one if necessary.

Running a Sphere TC if that helps.

I have a hard time with this one. I run yeah racing 3200 20c packs and was racing a buddy with a smc 30 c pack. both cars geared the same , same motor and we were dead even around the track. he had no more punch then i did.
we have since switched to all yaeh lipos and have never looked back.
Maybe if you were a a main guy 1-2 place finisher it would make a very mild difference. like .010 or so IMO

I'd bet either of those will do well for you. Don't quote me on this, but I remember reading somewhere that anything 2000mah and 20c was good enough for 6min of 13.5 and higher. You multiply the mah and c rating and that gets you how many amps the batter can handle. I tried looking it up, but I couldn't find how many amps a motor would use depending on the turn of it. I think that would be good info.

I know this won't help you decide what to buy, but it will confirm it for you after you have made a purchase. Run the packs, your pack should not get hot. Just a little warm. 100f is normal and 140f is danger zone. The pack will get hot if it can't put out enough amps.

You generally want more batt than you need so your setup runs cool. Batt will def get hot and not last if you get one thats undersized. Best thing if you can compare notes with someone running same setup and see what they've been using for lipos. Amp draw is too variable so you won't find general guidelines. Sometimes you can find data from someone using a data recorder posted on forums, but best bet is to find another running the same setup.

Personally, I'd get the higher rating.

Thanks for the help. I'm definitely going to see what the other people are using for batteries before I buy anything. The only downside to that is separating the people that buy only what they need (i.e. me) from the people that buy the most expensive battery they can find to impress everyone else (i.e.a lot of people)

My LHS said a while ago that they run 3600mah 20-24C lipos in pretty much anything 1/10 and have no issues, so I'm leaning towards the 25C ORCA. If i decide to run anything crazy for motor, i'll get better packs. Or buy used.

My friend has a Reedy 5000 35c battery and I run a Maxamps 6000 25c. I can tell a difference when I run his battery. His just has alittle more punch. (Running 13.5)

In 13.5/17.5/21.5 level motors, unless you are sponsored you probable will not see much of difference other than 30 or 40 dollars leaving your pocket per battery. Go read some of SMC's posts in their rctech section. I will post some of their comments here::::

In limited motor classes like 13.5 and 17.5 it seems like our 40C packs don't really run faster than our lower C rate packs. Were not sure why this is the case and were trying to figure this out.

Some of our drivers have been testing the 6000/28C pack and it's been running very well on the track.

When we test higher C rate packs in higher amp draw conditions the higher C rate is better but in the 13.5 class it seems like theres not enough amp draw to make a difference. This means you can save 35 bucks and get a 6000 and be very competitive.

Thanks for the info everyone. I don't care about a little more punch, since I've been away from the sport for 10 years and my driving is anything but consistent. For that reason as well I have no interest in bolting in a crazy mod motor. All it will do for me is break expensive TRF parts.

If SMC doesn't notice the difference, I doubt I will!
