Ask Venom tech if there is a correct sequence to setting a lipo up to charge and balance. Hyperion specifies that you plug the main power leads in 1st, then plug the balance connector in. They want you to reverse that order when its finished. They say can damage something inside charger.

Hope you find them helpful, in other threads on Venom Pro probs, they've been taking care of folks.

called venom. guy sounded stoned. regardless said doesn't matter what sequence you follow. when I told him what happened, "trippy" was his response. wtf are you serious? Regardless, he told me to send the fried piece in and he'd send me a new one.

I asked for the address and he asked if I still had the charger box..."cuz the address is on there". Oooookay...then I asked if I send it c/o somebody or something and he states "there's only two of us here...so we'll get it". wtf.

I'll be amazed if I ever get anything back after I send it in. For a "global" company they seem pretty low rent. perhaps I'm just bitter cuz work sucked...i'm getting a replacement part for free (sans shipping) so we'll see.

Funny and kind of pathetic at the same time. At least you got some hopefully reliable info. I hope they do replace the damaged connector, you obviously need it.

"For a "global" company they seem pretty low rent." I think that about sums up Venom in general. They are a case of getting what you pay for just unusual in tyat its the whole company.

Because of that, I balance charge to ensure both cells are of the same volts.
Because balance charging is slower than direct charging, when at the track and in between races balancing is not needed unless the batt tops off. Racers get sucked into so much hype!!!

My 989 doesn't balance charge and my Hyperion does, they take the same amount of time to charge the same pack. So I'm not sure where you get that but that's just me. Is it needed, not really, do I do it anyway, yeah. (balance)

The Hyperion I have charges faster in balance charge mode. Finishes the CV portion quicker.

And is much faster than the non balancing ICEs I have.

After some more thought I agree my Hyperion does finish the last part (CV) faster than my 989. Getting to 8.4 is obviously the same for both though.

Seems as though this subject is pretty wrapped up. So I'm gonna kick that dead horse one more time.

I asked about balancing at my lhs. Explained I have the Onyx 230 which does not balance charge. But the plug on my lipo fits the balance charger that came with my Blade CX heli. That charger does the job, but takes a few hours to do it. (designed for a lipo with much less mAh)

Was told that I don't have to worry about balancing except for about every ten charge/discharge cycles. I do it more often than that, and have had no problems.
