Default ESC overheating...help plz!

hi, on the back of my reedy challenger 19t motor, it says
"Correct gearing is critical. An incorrect gear ratio my result in excessive motor and ESC temperatures..."
It also came with a little table that said that a 1/10 touring on rubbers need a 6.4:1 FDR i havent a clue what that means

So i raced regardless and now... my ESC is getting too hot and cutting out.

I thought it was because the ESC is to weak for the new motor, because its very good, keeps up with my mate with brushless!

I found out that my ESC has a rated current of 75A...but i don't know the motor.

So, any help i will be thankful for. my ESC is a LRP AI Runner Plus reverse no.83060. Motor is a Reedy CHallenger 19t spec racing motor, my car is a Schummacher mi2

Thanks!
Greg

Your ESC should be able to handle the motor, a quick google search threw up a limit of 15 turns.

Gear ratio is very important. What gears do you have on the car now? The car's manual or one of the experts in the Schumacher thread should be able to tell you the internal ratio of your car, it is then a case of doing some maths...

FDR aka Overall ratio = Internal ratio*(spur/pinion)

I can't imagine that this gear ratio will be overgearing the motor so the case of the overheating must be elsewhere.

Check that the car rolls freely and that the motor runs "normally" if it is out of the car. Check that there is air flowing over the ESC (no waterproof covers or anything like that.

Apart from that it is going to be very hard to work out what the problem is over the internet.

how hot does it get? does it actually cut out? or does it just feel hot? hot is fine, but cutting out is pretty bad.

hey PocketRocket

what pully are you using, 20 or 17?

If you are using a 17t pully then your gear ratio will be 7.86 using a 89/24 spur pinion combo.

If you are using a 20t pully then your gear ratio will be 6.68 using a 89/24 spur pinion combo.

If you want i can email you a program that you can use to calculate your gear ratio, just drop me a pm

Steve
