Why do people hate on Maxamps?
#16
What people don't always seem to realize is that higher price is not equal to more expensive. I don't know about maxamps specifically but sometimes the higher priced item is the better value. Especially if you look at the long term.

I used to run maxamps exclusively (6000 2s and pair of 4000's), but had a real issue with longevity. For just over a year I watched as my 6000 slowly started bowing in the middle and the power just vanished. My 6.5 in my T4 started feeling like a 10.5. Dents, bends, and other deformations of the cells will cause a loss in power (but not necessarily capacity) and that is why I now run trakpower packs and have loved them for over a year with NO change in performance. I originally had 2 packs and picked up a third 6 months later and the new one felt exactly like my older packs.
That being said, I wouldn't mind picking up their latest hard case 4200's.

Besides, NeuEnergy lipos are on a pretty sweet deal right now. I just bought a 6s 4300 for $150.

[QUOTE=dangerwr;5108980]Now, do not quote me on this, but I believe the Truggy guys step up to a larger Neu 1515 but am not sure if that motor is designed to handle a 5S LiPo or larger. [QUOTE]
The 1515 motor will easily handle 6s depending on the KV of the motor. I run 6s in mine to keep heat down. Hi voltage, low amp draw. The key is to make sure your RPMs are in the efficient zone depending on your batteries. For example, the 1512 2D (2550kv) motor you're going to run on 4s will be hitting about 37,000 RPMs.
Typically most guys feel the best efficiency of the Neu motor is between 30k and 35k. You'll be fine, but you may have to use a larger battery to hit your desired 20 minute mains depending on what type of track you are running on (high grip or low grip).

Never had an issue with maxamps quality of product. Had a comunication issue that they went overboard to resolve. They are excellent people to deal with .
But true-rc has the same quality, if not better, lipo cells for half the price. I've run alot of different brands, maxamps true-rc , he-cell, enerland, e-flight,orion , core, and a e-fuel.Bang for the buck true-rc has been a best buy in my opinion. Now that they have a hard case, once it gets approved I'll be running that.

MA packs are overpriced and overrated. IF they were marketed as budget packs at budget prices, I wouldn't have a problem with them. When the MMM came out, a lot of us conversion guys started having trouble with puffing packs. The MA packs could not deliver what the MMM was asking for. TrueRC or Zippy packs are the way to go on a budget. Personally though, I won't use anything less than the best in my 1/8's. Enerland (PolyQuest, PolyRC) or Thunder Power packs are all I use. For 1/10, the TrakPower packs are noticeably better than anything else I have tried.

The Maxamps are rated at 100 amps continuous and the MMM asks for 75 amps. Overpriced is always a matter of perspective. Not to say that I am not on a budget but do not believe in going cheap either (Zippy etc.). I will give Maxamps a try and if the packs do not deliver I will not buy more.

I quite like Lipo, I race onroad with Lipos and it's all good.
I gave max amps a go, WORST customer service I'd ever seen, took them 7 days to process the order, item arrived and didn't work and half the order wasn't there, then when I asked for a refund I was made out to be a crook!
From someone who has been in RC 3-4 yrs and in retail service 17 yrs, that kind of service doesn't wash with me.
So yes, I like Lipo
No I don't like Maxamps, and if anyone asks, I'll give them an honest opinion based on my experience with them.

The thing about "going cheap." Why wouldn't you want a pack with better performance for less money? Go to the this thread and ask the pro's, "What would you rather run in your 1/8 conversion, MaxAmps packs or Zippy packs?" You will probably find that there is a mixed response because they are very comparable in performance. The only difference is the price....I wouldn't use either, myself.

Which MaxAmps pack are you looking at? If it's only rated at 100amps, you better look some more. You need a rating higher than 100amps in order to get a pack that will handle 100amps (see overrated). Also, I don't know where you get the 75amp info on the MMM. We've used an EagleTree a couple of times and see many spikes at 100+ amps.

I don't get people saying that MaxAmps are expensive. Go price an Orion and compare that price to MaxAmps. The Orion 3800 is $136! ON EBAY!
Rediculous!
I have a MaxAmps 7.4v 6000mAh soft pack that I've run for well over a year. In my Slash I get over an HOUR of run time. It's as strong as the day I bought it.
I also have a MaxAmps 7.4v 4200SS 30C hard pack. Been running it for three months now. I run two heats and a Main twice a week, plus random practice days. No problems whatsoever. Did the price go up $22 after I bought it? Yes. So what?
Ultimately, people are going to bitch about what they're going to bitch about. If I've learned anything about online forums, it's that 50% of the people don't know shit about what they're posting about, 10% SWEAR that their buddy had one blow up, 10% flat-out lie just so they can have somebody talk to them, which leaves 20%. Those are the people who will tell you what they have, how long they have had it, and what their experience has been.
That being said: I challenge you to find one person who has had a problem with a MaxAmps product, that didn't get it resolved immediately by the company.
As for the cost: you get what you pay for.
