I am surprised taht your LHS has these still. Been out of production for a long time. If available only get the belted version. Inserts .. your choice. A good tyre though

I won the rally class in 2006 here in Canada, now I wanna try for the mini.

I got a set (4) of HPI belted x-patterns. Any issue with using the included black sponge inserts and using the Tamiya #51334 Mini Cooper S 2006 wheels (or Swift is better?)? The HPI star wheels are like double the price, and inserts are again $... pls advice me, thanks!

The standard sponge is fine to use. From memory using moulded inserts in X patterns is difficult anyway - hard to get them to seat properly, so I always used to use the standard foam.

As for wheels, the Swift ones are probably a little stronger than the '06 Cooper ones.

As far as we're concerned, yes. But orange ones look cooler......

In response to your enquiry regarding the Tamiya Super slicks, I have used the Tamiya mini firm insert in the tyre. I'm not sure if these are still available.

I ran them again on Monday Night on a netball court track and last night at Windsor and these tyres mounted on the front showed no handling problems. The tyres are very firm.

I will be trying them at the Kambah track on the 16 th to see if they are any good. I will also have some others to try.

All I need now is a couple of fast sport tuned motors. Hint Hint.

The #53340s are not cheap man... how are their durability? Are the S-grips belted? I would guess not since it is not stated, and youmentioned to use only in the front. It's important to have belted in the rear as the tyres will "balloon" at higher speeds and cause the rear to be very unstable?

i am super happy,.......cos i solve my traction problem when running lipo.......

how did i do it? welll i add lead weight on both of my rear arms 3 piece of 5 grams on each sides....(15grams each side)


....i drove very agressively also cannot flip.....super cool..........super happy....

no i will slowly reduce weight to have more speed....

i suggest anyone with traction roll problem to try.....

i got this idea when i saw that m03R wont flip that easy..

Why not add the lead weights to the chassis instead of adding more unsprung weight to the arms?

errm...i got the theory, spread weight have lower Cg...like M03R, the alu rear upright help with the Cg of the car.....cos i have race with a lighter M03R which would NOT traction roll at corners..even sharp 1..

now i just need to reduce the weight to make if faster...


fyi, i an running foam tyre on asphalt. the foam its about 2 mm thick.

please correct me if i am wrong.
