Default gtb or 6.5 problem?

well long story short, i installed my orig version gtb esc and 6.5r in my xx4 tonight and went to turn it on..... well i was also setting up my radio w/ a new reciever as well...

turned on the esc, and the motor began to run kinda slowly, i just needed to reverse the setting on my radio. i change that and smell something.... touch the esc and it's hot!!! and the motor would slowly run slower and slower w/ just a tiny amt of throttle...

now 10 mins later, lipo is unplugged, gtb is still warm, motor is still warm, and i really don't know what to do. everything worked fine a few months ago as thats the last time i have used the esc or motor. pack is freshly charged.

any idea's? does the esc maybe just need to be set up? i'm just not really sure where to go from here and any help is greatly appreciated

Maybe un-reverse the throttle and start again. if you get sloow turning, maybe its a trim issue.

ok anyway, depress the set button on the ESC and power on the car while holdingthe button down. when the red light turns on, give it full throttle, then wait, etc. then full brake when the green light comes on, etc. then neutral and wait for the lights to do the dance... this should set the trottle to the transmitter.
if you get the slow turning adjust the trim out..but you shouldnt.

I had trouble like this once, but I think it was becuase my trx pack was low when I initially programmed the speedo. check your throttle endpoint as well, to make sure its at 100% or better.

Also, I have grown increasingly disapointed with Novaks gear over the last 3 years. All the troubles are sensor related, have to do with chatter, and are mostly unexplainable. I think they changed component suppliers to non-usa or something, and their quality is suffering because of it.

If you have incredible heating of the ESC something is wrong inside, or possible hooked up wrong. the heat generating components in there are MOSFETS and can get very hot very fast if hooked up wrong. Try un-reversing your throttle and reprogramming your esc.
let us know how it goes.
thanks,
Pete

Thanks for the good advice. I hope it solves his problem.

I am concerned by your negative experience with later production Novak gear. I've been using their stuff since I ran a T4 ESC in my RPS Yokomo SE buggy more than 22 years ago. That ESC still works fine (and is still on the Yokomo that's now sittin' on the mantle). I'm currently running an older GTB with a Velocity 6.5R in my XXX4, and have an XXTRA synth reciever that's been in a few different cars lately. Hopefuly they'll tighten up the QC on their componants as I'd like to continue running orange...
