should i put diff lube on my spool diff rings?

No, a new car isn't coming out anytime soon from Losi. The Type R will be a 2 years old "publicly" in March '09. So no, it won't be outdated in 6 months.

The spindles have been the same design since the XXX-S. Only difference is they went from Graphite to EA3. So if your shop has that stuff for the XXX-S or XXX-4, you can use those on your JRXS. Hinge pins from the JRXS and Type R should be the same. Only real difference is the arms since the Type R are longer.

nothing from a xxx4 will fit the car other than screws and bearings.
the xxxs castor blocks are not chamfered to clear the springs. that was a running change made for the jrxs.
the xxxs steering knuckles don't have the extra ackerman hole, again, running change made for the jrxs.

As far as I know all the old parts for the xxx-4 and xxx-s have been discontinued by losi and the original jrxs parts and p/n's were used in there place so yes those parts will fit the old jrxs even if they are the old p/n's. The newer p/n's are different because of the new material used in the mold.

Yea I realized that after I posted. Further more I checked losi parts house and apparently they still make the short knuckles for the xxx-s. The question was if the knuckles for the type r will fit on the old jrx-s and the answer is yes. Sorry for the confusion.

As for special stuff needed for the car, I wouldn't say there's much. Outside of the kit, get the following for rubber tires...
-2 Sway Bar Kits (same front and rear)
-41 and 42 tooth spool pullies (both for tuning purposes)
-2 Sets of 15lb springs (kit comes with 30s and 17.5s)
-45wt and 40wt shock oils (kit comes with 50wt)
-1 degree rear hubs
-0 degree and 1 degree arm mounts (car comes with 2 degree rear mount)
-Extra set of turnbuckle, .380 ball studs, and ball cups to put a standard camber link up front (replacing the Jr link the car comes with)
-.165 and .195 aluminum hexes (comes with .165 plastic hexes, aluminum is much preferred)
That should do it as far as setup items you'll need. That'll cover you for both carpet and rubber tires. The only thing I didn't list is a 1 way front diff. You only really need that for rubber tire carpet racing. Asphalt is usually always a spool. If you do plan on running carpet with the car at some point, make sure you get some 6* caster blocks as the car comes with 4* blocks. Any other questions, we're here to help.

You can find several setups throughout this thread regarding asphalt setups. Search for posts from Larry Fairtrace as he has a heck of an asphalt setup this season. He's been basically unstoppable on rubber tires this summer.
