Hey all. I am looking for a little bit of help on the setup for my M04L. I am having some trouble deciding on a couple of parameters, however. The track I run on is smooth, treated asphalt with good grip. Here is what I have come up with so far:

Front:
Camber - 2 degrees neg.
Toe - +1.5
Spring - Firm
Shock Oil - ?
Tire Type - ?
Insert - Firm

Rear:
Camber - 2 degrees neg.
Toe - 2 degrees
Spring - Medium
Shock Oil - ?
Tire Type - ?
Insert - Medium
Differential - Tight (ball diff, not locked)

As you can see, the tire choice and shock oil are where I am having the most trouble. For the tires, I am thinking I want a medium compound tire on the front and a soft compound tire on the rear (or perhaps hard in front, medium on rear), but I am not sure which brand/model of tire to go with. I have the stock M and S grips that came with the car, but I was not terribly impressed with them. I have heard someone mention M grips on the front and M slicks on the rear, but I am not sure. For the shock oil, I am thinking of going with something like 40 wt. on all 4 corners, but, again, I am not sure. The brand of the shocks is another question. I basically have 4 choices. There are the Tamiya CVA shocks, the Tamiya M-chassis aluminum shocks (p/n 54000), the Yeah Racing aluminum shocks, and the 3Racing aluminum shocks. The Yeah Racing and 3Racing units look good because of the price, but the Tamiya aluminums look good because they are TCS legal (not a big issue) and I know they will fit perfectly.

Can anyone offer up some opinions to help point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Geek I used 3Racing shocks on my M04M and liked them alot. I ran 35wt. oil in mine with red springs rear and blue front.

I used RP36r's on my M04M. Was an parking lot track sprayed with soda/water mix so traction was pretty good.

Have not tried any other tires that are out now though?

Thanks Xtant. I wasn't sure if I should run the same tires on both ends of the car. I think I will go ahead and try that and use the shock settings to try and get as close to neutral handling as possible.

It's a brilliant little track for Minis (a bit of a squeeze for Touring Cars) and lots of fun can be had I can tell you.
Oh and despite lots and lots of carnage, very little was actually broken...

Yes and No.... Good to drive them around there for sure (my RC18R was LOTS of fun around there) but the track is very unforgiving.

M03's are tough, but most of the 4WD Minis aren't quite so bulletproof...

We are just about to revive the 4WF Mini class at the indoor Windsor track .... looking to run the class with Lipo and 17.5 BL motors

Hi guys after seeing the vid of Radical R/C track I'd like to know about the how-to of building a carpet track, It would be made for Minis obviously with silver cans and maybe TC w/ 10.5 ???? What do u guys recommend ? Measurements, and the most important is it a specia lcarpet type how's it's name???

No idea of the measurements, but it's not very big, really if you were going to build a track you'd make it bigger than that anyway. All they did was just use all the room that they had available.
The carpet is called OZITE and its an industrial carpet. Its expensive though.
All they did was just stretch it out, then glue it down. The track markings are orange PVC pipe, held down with saddle clamps.

It's too small for Touring Cars, even one is a handful. But our Minis were fine there - Black Cans as usual, but we did try Silver Cans and the lap times were the same..

That was one hell of a finish!

aluminum shock towers braces were the most pointless but "lloookk" cool!
