Default Difference between Air & Surface Radio Systems?

Hey, guys. So I may be building a custom RC project that would require a minimum of 4 channels. The vehicle would be land-based. Would there be anything wrong with using an air-based radio? Such as the Spektrum DX6i with the AR6100 receiver?

What exactly is the difference between land and air radio systems? How come air radios seem to be less expensive than ones labeled as "surface"?

Thanks, guys.
