I just got my RC8 built and painted. Looks great. However I can't start it.
Clutch Bell spins freely but the flywheel feels tight. When I have the motor out of the car it rotates but but somewhat tight and sometimes I can't rotate it at all. When I put on the starter box it can spin the flywheel at all it seems. Help.

Have you tried turning it with the glow plug out? It could be flooded or vaper locked. I would try that.

Just took the plug out and tried it. It won't budge.

how old is the motor??? the bearings might be going out.... or might just have been ran so much that it needs to be resleeved.

I re-sat the motor and put it on my starter box and ran it. It moved okay this time. I was able to turn the fly wheel immediately afterwards. The batteries died in the start box and I just charged them a few days ago. They seem to only take a few minutes to charge though. I have to Racers Edge Super Sport 7 volt batteries. I'm charging them on a Super Brain 960 at 4amps. Shouldn't they last longer than a few days? I'm charging the second battery now and will try starting it again.

A buddy of mine had the same trouble you are it sounds like. He got a heat gun and warmed up the motor to 190-210 before trying to start it on the box. Hope it helps you.

sometimes you do have to heat them up when you get them new out of the box. that could be the problem.

Here's a question. I noticed that when I turn the crankshaft and the cylinder gets to the top of the stroke its really hard to turn the shaft harder than what the starter box is going to be able to turn. Is that normal?

yeah that is normal thats "compression/pinch" hat up your engine with a heat gun for a couple mins prior to starting it heat up the crank case. rotate the flywheel until its around BDC (the flywheel will be loose at this time) loosen the glow plug about a half a turn put the buggy on the starter box, put the ignitor on and try and start the car with OUT "priming" the engine right away get the engine spinning then plug the exuast for a sec to get fuel to the engine.

Thanks. I'll give that a try this morning. I guess heating it up expands the cylinder sleeve and allows the cylinder to move freely. I'll post how it goes.

I don't have a Heat Gun. I can got get one today, but will a blow dryer work? I tried using it on the engine body for three minutes and couldn't get the starter to rotate the fly wheel.

Bought a heat gun and heated up the engine for 5 min. Was able to get it spinning once. After several times my starter batteries aren't putting out enough. I'm charging them again now and will try heating up the engine again. Have you guys had to go through this when getting a new engine? Is there anything else I should be doing or is this pretty much it until the engine gets broken in?

Here's the latest. I'm able to heat up the motor and get the starter box to spin it with no problem now. Are Racers Edge 7v 1500mah batteries not good enough? They don't seem to take that long to charge but they don't seem to give enough torque and loose power quickly. Not enough to turn get the engine going good more than a couple times.

ye them batteries will not last long, the more mah the battery has, the more runtime you will get. Try like a 3300 or 3700 battery.
