Default Trinity DPD Discharger

Got a few questions..

People were saying that when you are discharging a pack internaly at 30 amps.. When the first cell reaches the desired adjustable cutoff voltage per cell, then the pack goes into a 1 amp discharge for the rest of the cells? There is no option when it is charging to view to confirm that.. All you see is the voltages dropping from the other 5 cells that are still discharging.. So how do you know forsure?

Or does it go into a linear 5 amp tray mod when the 1st cell hits?

Is there a way to reset the discharger? As in the reset teh cycle number?

about linear 1amp after 1st cell hits cutoff, can tell by watching the cell numbers and when the fan stops.

Watching the cell numbers will tell you nothing, you will se them go lower, but not forsure at 1 amp... The fans control the DPD's temp, so that doesnt have anything to do with it... So i dunno.

If you set the DPD to .9 and use the external leads when discharging a 6 cell pack.. Does it cutoff at 5.4 i take it?

Did some testing on 2 brand new EP4600 packs I built today. I will be cycling them 3 time to break them in. 1st cycle, Ill use the internal 30 amp discharge. 2nd cycle, I will use the external 30 amp discharge leads and compare the results from the first 2 cycles.. Ill use w/e one works best for the 3rd cycle.

And regarding the DPD going to a 1 amp discharge once the 1st cell hits the adjustable cutoff, is wrong. The voltages on the rest of the cells kept dropping at the same rate as earlier in the discharge. And if you think the fans shut off once it hits the, so called "1 amp discharge" is wrong also. 1st pack, the fans shut off when ALL the cells were around 9.8 voltsl. 2nd pack, the fans shut off after 3 of 6 cells were done.

I will update this post with my results. I will let the cells rest over the night. I discharged them to .90 volt per cell. I did not tray them after the discharge. I will do that tomorrow before I charge the packs.

Trinity DPD Results

#1 EP4600 Pack 1st cycle
• Internal 30 amp pulse
• .90volt per cell cutoff
• 457 seconds (7.6 minutes) of actual 30 amp linear discharge rate
• 1 hour to pulse discharge the pack
• Average voltage 7.41
• 9.5 ohms of resistance
• Total capacity discharged, 3863mah

#1 EP4600 Pack 2nd cycle
• External 30 amp pulse
• .90volt per cell cutoff
• 469 seconds (7.8 minutes) of actual 30 amp linear discharge rate
• 1 hour to pulse discharge the pack
• Average voltage 7.31
• 11.3 ohms of resistance
• Total capacity discharged, 3927mah

#1 EP4600 Pack 3rd cycle
• Internal 30 amp pulse
• .90volt per cell cutoff
• 475 seconds (7.9 minutes) of actual 30 amp linear discharge rate
• 1 hour, 9 minutes to pulse discharge the pack
• Average voltage 7.50
• 9.4 ohms of resistance
• Total capacity discharged, 4015mah

#2 EP4600 Pack 1st cycle
• Internal 30 amp pulse
• .90volt per cell cutoff
• 472 seconds (7.8 minutes) of actual 30 amp linear discharge rate
• 1 hour, 3 minutes to pulse discharge the pack
• Average voltage 7.36
• 10.9 ohms of resistance
• Total capacity discharged, 3992mah

#2 EP4600 Pack 2nd cycle
• External 30 amp pulse
• .90volt per cell cutoff
• 473 seconds (7.8 minutes) of actual 30 amp linear discharge rate
• 1 hour, 3 minutes to pulse discharge the pack
• Average voltage 7.36
• 12.2 ohms of resistance
• Total capacity discharged, 3998mah

#2 EP4600 Pack 3rd cycle
• Internal 30 amp pulse
• .90volt per cell cutoff
• 474 seconds (7.8 minutes) of actual 30 amp linear discharge rate
• 1 hour, 3 minutes to pulse discharge the pack
• Average voltage 7.38
• 12.2 ohms of resistance
• Total capacity discharged, 4408mah

So you can see, the discharge is getting longer, the average voltage is going up which is good! Resistance fluctuates as the pack is used more in the same day. I did charged and 30 amp pulse discharge the packs previoulst to my first DPD discharge using a Checkpoint TC1030 to get the packs going. Ill use internal from now on. Keep in mind I am discharging fully charged packs. So it takes a long time. Ill do another test later on when the car comes off a 5 minute race.
