My 35 plus 21 is temporarily dead ...... the rear bearing has some lateral play in it, and my friend tell me to put new bearing before using it again.

In mean time, I have 1/8 race coming in.... and I'm looking to buy replacement engine, which is Ninja MR21 R01A.

I have some questions :

1. Can I use Novarossi glow plugs ?

2. Reliability of this engine ? ...... eg. like OS ? like Novarossi ? .... ( novarossi 35 plus 21 is a crap, hard to tune, short lived bearing ).

Do yourselves a big favor and buy something else, like a Picco based engine or something.

I have not seen on of these Ninjas make good power paired with decent run time.

Just a recommendation.

Thanks ....... my friend also suggest picco as alternative, but it seems all picco engines are made in taiwan.

Picco engines use Novarossi or OS glow plugs ?

I agree with Stefan (wierd). But the only people I've seen with fast Ninjas are team drivers. I do recomend the Picco P9R. Best bang for the buck.

Why would that be weird?

I've seen quite a few people quit Mugen because they had to run Ninja engines.

We had two top drivers not attending the worlds in Cordoba, because they felt that it was a waste of time with that engine.

Swauger and Rick V.: Have they lost their driving abilities? I don't think so.

I got flamed in another thread, because I congratulated B.Baker that he would be the only Mugen team driver because he's running Max engines.....

I had, as many others, high hopes in that engine line, because it promised to be an affordable alternative to Novarossi, who, IMHO, have completely lost touch with reality in regards to engine prices, but as many others I have been very disapointed with what I saw of the Ninjas.

Huge quality problems in the beginning, down on power, and the Mario tuned versions are now even more expensive than the top of the line NR engines....

In fact, Picco, who always built fast engines that never lasted, seems to have overcome their quality issues and is selling more and more engines over here.

They have become the affordable alternative to NR now.

Btw, they will built the new Kyosho / Orion engines!

I think that you guys are a little harsh on these engine. Yes no doubt they have some power problems, but they WILL fix them. These engines are relitivly new on the market. There is no doubting the quality of the engines now, yep they had a problem but they DID fix it, same with the magnesium heads, but everyone that i have spoken to that brought a mag head engine got a new alloy one FREE of charge, not many companies would do that. So at the end of they day we just need to give them a break and let them sort it out.

Tell you what, you spend YOUR money so they can sort it out. In other words, we're paying for their R&D.

I do think they have "fixed" their problems. I bought a modded .12 ninja back in spring and who knows how long the modifier had it before I bought it. Anyway, I was never happy with it. It wouldn't hold a tune, it never had mind-blowing $400 modified engine power, it lost it's "pinch" quick and since I never replaced the con-rod, the lower bushing came apart and the engine was a total loss except for the carb.

BUT, 2 friends I race with bought ninja .12s toward the end of our race season. Both of them are stock, and they made mine look slow. Both of them love theirs and they are fast but i'll never spend my money on a ninja again. I'm not spending $500 on a stock Novarossi either so don't know what i'll do...
