I'd say go with the HPI Nitro RTR3. It's ready to go at around $270, and its good quality w/good parts support.

If you are going to pay that type of price for an RTR you would be better to get something like a NTC3 RTR or the Yokomo RTR. They are both better cars and more adjustable. If you decide to upgrade to race at a later date either these 2 cars will be far more competitive just by adding a new motor and pipe.

Over here where I am (in Asia), there are cheaper taiwanese/chinese makes which cost the equiv. of USD150-200. These are being sold in large quantities, but I haven't seen any spare parts or hopup options for them. One brand I recall is Smartech. Cheap and fast, but I don't know where you're going to fing spare parts.
