Default PC Problem

Whilst not strictly R/C, I figure there is heaps of computer geeks around who may be able to steer me in the right direction.
I have an issue with my DVD burner. It will happily read a DVD or CD but will not write them. I recently spent a few hours compiling a DVD of several years worth of R/C footage on Windows Movie Maker, and when it came time to burn to disc, an error message came up instructing me to "install a suitable burner and press continue". I tried making a Video CD with Nero 7, and also a music CD with Windows Media Player, all with no success. Thinking it was an issue with the burner (Gigabyte 1616B) I replaced it with a new Pioneer unit, but with the same results.

Any ideas???

Already done that. The original burner was supplied with Nero 6.6, which was uninstalled and re-installed. The new version came with Nero 7, which was installed when the burner was fitted. Same (lack of) results both times.

this also happened and still happens with me... i got a pioneer oem model and i had to find the firmware off the net and use that. took alot of fiddleing round to get it to work and reinstalled windows so i think there is an easier way. have you tried adding the hardware manually?

Go to Control Panel then System then Hardware then Device Manager.

Check here against the DVD drive to make sure that there is no problems with this.

Also check the setting in Nero. Make sure that it has selected the burner as the drive to use and not to create an image on your hard drive.

Good luck with the problem.
