2007 HPI WINTER CHAMPS AND HPI CHALLENGE

In my view, a controlled rubber tyre is a great initiative for the following reasons:
• Provides a level playing field for everyone.
• Reduces the cost of competing.
• Reduces car setup time not having to test different compounds/inserts/wheels.
• Reduces the equipment I need to take to the meeting.
I only wish it would be feasibly to have a controlled traction compound or no traction compound to reduce luggage space and testing time as well. I must be missing something as I really don't understand what the fuss is about over controlling wide ranging items like tyres in our sport.
Regards,
Peter

Adam.A on these forums has a online store (www.rctyres.com.au i think it is, i don't race electric any more so i haven't visted for a while) anyway, he sells sorex tyres at a rate close to that. maybe $6 more or so i think. I don't think many Japanese brands give exclusivity rights for distribution from what i heard so many people can bring in stock and sell it.
if the rules were slightly tweaked to support smaller importers you may find that more companies will import different brands, hence increasing supply and chances of new brands being used and exposed to the market through events. TOP racing has tyres i think. Rod brings them in, just one example of a small guy bringing in a lesser known brand.
i say leave tyres open (but limited to rubbers), and when the finals come around hand out the control tyres to the A finalists. If times are quicker during qualifying with open tyres, then this will shed some light ont he brands and inserts that are quick, hence increasing reputation of the lesser known brand/combo, and hence future events would consider using the tyres. It isn't hard to control at all, infact it is easier to control because you know who has the tyres, and you check them straight away at scrutineering, less chance of tampering etc.

Wow thomas those are some of your best long winded misinformed posts ever. Congratulations.

ay, i still think my point is valid though about using different brands though. no point creating a situation where one brand becomes the dominant tyre just purely because it is the one used at sanctioned races though.

It's a opinion mate, i think you can live with it, your "rubbish" is just as valid as my "rubbish"
typical Rctech bullsh1t of overreactions to comments and name calling. I was just throwing around a few ideas, no need to go Stalin on my arse dude!
sh1t you think that showing humility on my behalf and admiting the comment wasn't well thought through in hindsight would of been enough, but you had come on, and throw in a smart arse comment.
were you one of the people who bagged out Sorex tyres back in the days that take offs were "the ticket"? maybe lets have a look at how we can implement a change in rules to open up the tyre market, what do you think Troy? or is this a Rubbush idea as well?...in your opinion, without name calling, how can we do this? This is all i was trying to initiate, a discussion on opening up the use of new brands, thats all.

Have never run takeoffs ever. I have always said that sorex are the fastest tyre most often than not. The new V2's where unreal compared to the standard version. Considerably more life and seemed to be as fast 2nd run onwards.
This event was hosted on behalf of RL and HEI. Why would the control tyre be something they don't sell?
You are still talking about an event or even "scene" you are not part of. There have been some very good comments on this subject from the likes of brad, DC, etc in the past on this subject but makes no difference when the racemeet has importer backing. The rules will always suit the involved parties. This has always been obvious.
There was nothing wrong with the event but like most people I would like to race on something else too.

The determining factor must surely be - how many importers in Australia are prepared, and even capable of, guaranteeing 2 or 3 months out, when the entry form comes out, that they will have enough tyres in stock to supply a Nationals or major event with unknown entry numbers and then also guarantee that they will take back into their stock any unused tyres.
Not many and therefore we will be using the brands imported by those that are willing and capable of doing that.

Gidday,
I think the best answer for the big events is to have a control tyre eg Sorex 36R, but it can be bought from anywhere and there are no limits on inserts and wheels. What this would do is allow the average racer to use what he has got in his pit box but it still gives the fast guys a fairly even playing field without massive cost. Most people have a set or 3 or these tyres so it would not cost anyone much and also the sponsor would still for sure sell a few new sets on the side too. This would take a lot of hassle out of inspections as well.

IMO if we have to run rubber, control is the only way, but they should be premounted, at a price where the tire supplier is not making a killing on a closed market. With proper scrutiny to be able to prevent tire pooling and extra sets.

It does allow many combinations but at least it makes it much easier for average joe to race at these events. Most of the top guys as you well know have a fair idea what works anyway so they will not go through heaps.
