Guess the only way to go now days is to ship your gear Ups before the event & then ship it back ...
Not very convenient...
just the threat`s alone, is switching a few racer`s minds....

off road euros, people are flying there, and now trying to get people in cars to take some gear as it will just save the hassle of explaining what everything is.

Yeah, when you bring your carry on luggage on (Radio, car, stuff you do not want to get damaged) the security looks at things really well.

I can see this as a future problem.

in the UK, only very limited items are being allowed to be carried on, everything else is going in the hold, and I mean EVERYTHING.

Most of the U.S. team is not attending the 1/8 Off Road Worlds in Indonesia because of ongoing U.S. government warnings against non-essential travel there.

The fact that that country has had a huge earthquake, massive volcanic eruption and a tsunami all in the last 12 months dosen't help either.

I personally have never had to travel to an rc event outside the United States. But as far as traveling within North America, I've never really had an issue with any R/C related item i've brought along with me. Anyone really have an issue with items flying to International races?

"Raised Threat Levels:

The U.S. threat level is raised to Severe, or Red, for all commercial flights flying from the United Kingdom to the United States.

The U.S. threat level is raised to High, or Orange, for all commercial aviation operating in the United States, including international flights. Flights from the United States to the United Kingdom are also Orange.

Increased Aviation Screening Procedures:

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is implementing a series of security measures, some visible and some not visible, to ensure the security of the traveling public and the nation's transportation system.

NO LIQUIDS OR GELS OF ANY KIND WILL BE PERMITTED IN CARRY-ON BAGGAGE. SUCH ITEMS MUST BE IN CHECKED BAGGAGE.

This includes all beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, tooth paste, hair gel, and other items of similar consistency

Exceptions: Baby formula and medicines, which must be presented for inspection at the checkpoint.

Beverages purchased in the boarding area, beyond the checkpoint, must be consumed before boarding because they will not be permitted onboard the aircraft.

Passengers traveling from the United Kingdom to the United States will be subject to a more extensive screening process.

These measures will be constantly evaluated and updated as circumstances warrant.

How every passenger can assist in security:

* Pack lightly, without clutter to facilitate easier screening
* Arrive earlier than usual at the airport
* Cooperate with TSA personnel at checkpoints and with airline personnel at all gates
* Be attentive and vigilant to any suspicious activity and report it to authorities

Increased Border Protection Procedures:

U.S. Customs and Border Protection will increase enforcement efforts in international arrival areas including the use of advanced targeting tools, special response teams including baggage and aircraft search teams, baggage x-ray equipment, specially-trained canine units, and explosive detection technology.

DHS has also mandated that all flights from the United Kingdom transmit passenger manifest information for intensive screening prior to departure from the gate. In addition, passengers on these flights and all other international flights will be subject to heightened inspection upon arrival in the United States."

isn't it a tad bit of a sweeping statement? Java island is big and the proposed race is in jakarta if i'm not mistaken. The quake and volcanoe were off yogjakarta; and if tsunami makes it to jakarta, rest of the world needs to be worried too. Shrepnels (sp?) and kidnapping are perhaps of higher concerns tho. On the other hand, st. andreas fault isn't that stable either

I am flying out to a race Monday on Northwest. I called them today and explained what I would be traveling with and, while speaking to the individual, had them go to a website that showed photos of what I wanted to carry on. The individual informed me that, from what I showed him, there wouldn't be any issue with what I would want to take along. Now, he did state that It will also depend on what the TSA said when I went thru security. Basically, I showed him photos of Battery packs, Transmitters, and Chassis.

No, you can still fly (at your own risk), but will have to check-in your stuff (and who knows what condition it will be in when it returns to you?). Fedex, UPS and DHL are probably your best bet to send your stuff. Vegas is right around the corner so I guess you should start packing your stuff now!!
