Some of these numbers don't look right. Firstsly running pre-load on the front would be very understeery, and also having 8 degrees of rear toe is unusual as well.....

You would normally only run about 2 - 2.5 degrees rear toe. Just check and make sure your car isn't at 8

Dear HPI

My mistake V groove Pro (super??) comp. tires. Aren't these the kit tires??

Try one or two of these at a time to see if your car improves then try another and so on... but go with the yellow springs in the rear first. I think this would be a big improvement, Later.

I think the 8 deg was a mistype. Maximum rear toe for an HPI Nitro sedan is 2 degrees total.

Some Comments on your set-up;

Ride height: perfect!

Springs: Unless you HAVE to run Black springs get 1 pair each of the Yellow, Red & Green springs.
Try yellow in back and Red in the front. You should have more overall traction even with the same tires.

Droop: Try 2mm Front droop and 3-4mm Rear droop. This should make the car more stable and easier to drive fast.

Shock oil: Slightly heavier oil will help the car maintain balance better while improving response.

Camber: Zero in the Front is good. Try running -1 deg. or less in the rear. You should see an improvement in rear traction and stability with this.

Toe: Front Zero, Rear 2 degrees is the maximum total availible.

Swaybars: A swaybar at any end of the car will take AWAY traction from that end. (Front more push, rear less traction)

Tire: A better set of tires will make a world of difference. When $$ permits, get some tires based on the surface that you are running on. If you want to stay with HPI, the "R" series tires work better than the X-patterns.

V-Groove tires?! Man, those are for doing donuts and stuff. Seriously, there are many tires that are much, much better. All this HPI talk makes me miss my Racer2. If you want to stick with HPI, and you want treaded/grooved tires get the 27R or 33R compound Advans. You really should step up to some Sorex, TakeOff or Yok tires. Tires are 80% of the traction equation. Your setup seems ok but change your springs. The base Racer2 setup is pretty good and they use red front and white rear springs. Good luck

Here is another person trying to help with tire choices. I know Rod and he's fast.
Tires will make more of a difference to the handling of your car than anything else. We are NOT just talking out of our A----. We have spent several $100 dollars on tires over the past few years so we know from experience what works and what doesn't.

Wow..... I've been gone for a awhlie. I've reviewd my setup and yes it is only 2* of toe in the rear. I did put swaybars in green up front and red in back i think, that did help alot.

Guys;

I really would not recommend Pro-line or HPI brand tires for racing if Sorex, Take-Off or Yokomo's are availible.

Pro-Line;

S2's: (any type) Poor Traction. Maybe OK for an Electric Car.
S3's: Good on Concrete, OK on Asphalt with firm inserts. Wear very fast.

HPI Tires;

The "R" series tires are decent, but have a VERY narrow temperature range and will lose grip completely if out of range. The 33R's seem to have the widest range of all but need a track temp of at least 80F to grip properly.
All of the other compounds just don't have the grip and the wear to justify purchase over some of the better brands.

These recommendations are from my actual racing experience with these tires and not just second hand information.

I'm going crazy reading these forums deciding whether to get slicks or treaded tires. I already have foams so its either slicks or treaded. I'm going with the slicks, i will be running on concrete mostly in streets, here and there on the track but mostly with my foams.
I want someone to be nice enough to answer this question straight forward. What would be recommended if you had to choose between soft/firm tires/wheels. I approach the soft in the back firm in the rear. I live in new york city weather is fair here around 50-80s getting warmer.
Someone please tell me what to buy either 4 firm/ 4 soft / 2 firm 2 soft and where to put them.
