Rob, go see the body list on the WGTr thread then with the updated for this season rules....

Yes it's supposed to be.. but the organisers feel its too far off the real thing. I wanted to run the Exotek GTF which is supposed to be an F50 but it's on the "No" list.

How is USGT attendance in your area? I race at Soda City RC in Columbia, SC and we haven't had enough to run the class recently. :-(

I’m new to USGT all my parts aren’t even shipped to my house yet, but I’m confused as to why the body rules would be in the WGTR thread. I checked the rules with the links provided by my hobby shop. They are hosted on the VTA site, last update appears to be June of 2024.

I have driven to Wisconsin few times over winter to run it. It’s very inconsistent locally

Since LMH class popped up, we haven't ran USGT indoors in some time. Last race I seen the class was at the Winter Warrior 5 race at 180 Raceway this past December and they only had 9 entries. The year before they had 20 entries. USGT is one of only two non-Tamiya classes ran at the Brownies Summer Series races at Jackson RC in Jackson, NJ so we shall see if the class still has good attendance. I ran USGT in 2023 but last year in 2024 I ran my FWD instead of my USGT car in that class. This year I plan on running the Tamiya GT2 class instead and Formula One (which is the other open chassis class). I suspect USGT will be dead this summer and they may switch over to LMH. Personally I wouldn't mind running LMH bodies but still run the USGT motor and tires since we all have them. USGT bodies are all over the place and quite honestly the only body everyone runs worth a damn is the BWOAH which in my opinion is a LMH body.

hey all, I am getting an xray x4 ready for my (very casual) return to racing. Targeting usgt, but depending on entries, like the above fellow, I may end up in LMH.

That being said, I need to get some race ready lipo batteries for either USGT/LMH or just 21.5 racing in general. Does anyone have any suggestions? I realize this isn't the electronics sub forum... but from looking at setup sheets and reading between the lines, the battery capacity/style is a bit more class specific these days then it was when I was last driving small cars in circles.

Variations in battery capacity choice probably have more to do with weight. 6000mah batteries - from GensAce or similar - seem to be popular in So Cal. If you are in OC, CA then you will find way more USGT racing than LMH around here, sometimes it is the largest class.

Default Batteries

For me, the Team EAM 6000mah ulcg battery or its Motiv counterpart are my preference. Low profile, not heavy, and enough capacity for lower power motors.

Check out the Gen's Ace Redline 2.0 6500mah pack. Not an ULCG but also not a heavy brick. Very low voltage drop-off. Perfect battery for USGT.

Like Monarch mentioned, it's all USGT in OC/LA/SD areas. Haven't seen LMH cars in a while... USGT has enough entries for both sportsman and expert classes so that you can ease into racing again.

It is, and in real life the Valkyrie isssss... An LMH. The Protoform Venturi seems to be the hot body at my track and I think it's ugly. Not saying anything about the form because I'm still using a Vittoria. I wish it was all GT1/2/3 based cars.
As far as the tires go, we ran the grey belted ones all last summer in the parking lot and really didn't have any issues. The track is pretty massive so a lot of our final drives were under 3.0. The gearing makes the car even easier to drive. I found that if the car did start to slide at all mid corner, I'd just stay in it and with the lack of torque it wouldn't have enough power to spin out. I was saucing with either liquid wrench, or 3.0 max depending on the prep level of the track that weekend. As the summer went on I did start to have issues with the tires tearing where the glue rib and sidewall met.
I was worried about the grip after seeing a few others the season before have issues with the belted tires on asphalt, so I built the car with tons of mechanical grip from the start and slowly worked away from that through the season. Looking forward to another awesome summer of fun this year. USGT and GT8 FTW!
