We had 5 racers and a new entrant, welcome Malave, who only race Box Stock this month. HeyDay remained in Beast Mode and ran all 7 classes and the informal MX-5 class and improved his times in 4 classes over March! I traveled to Pennsylvania at the beginning of April for a big race on a large track at Park Lane Hobbies. The preparation leading up to that event, the 1,000 mile drive and the 4 days and 3 nights away wore me out, so I didn't get many Mini-96 runs in this month which is probably why I was slower in all classes compared to March. Good thing Poor Boy didn't get to run much either... Here are the results:
Box Stock
1st - Traveler2/Marwan Zabaneh - 273.9/3.30s
2nd - PoorBoy/David Krinard - 306.4/3.60s

For May we will be trying this layout running clockwise. I don't think it resembles anything we've used since I started in 2019. It uses all 96 tiles and should be fast around the outside, but require a rhythm going through the slalom, very different from the last layout. Drive fast!

ok, so im glad it wasnt just me that has my smaller wheelbase traction roll often.I run it in another group since its not a miata nor porsche and dont see any other group it would fit. After looking at the rules, would anyone be able to confirm if a GLF1 would qualify for the 2wd open class? Ive tried to search the forum but had not seen an f1 entry yet

Just setup the new layout and driving it with my Stock chassis w/ the 12C, and I LIKE IT! I can drive it pretty well numb fingers and all!
I just tend to smack the outside wall in the corner coming out of the straight.
Yall have fun and keep it Shiny side up! Drew

It would be cool to see a GLF1 run the Mini96! IIRC someone ran one in the beginning of the Challenge, but had a hard time with the tight switchbacks on the small tile track. I think they are super cool, but with no access to a large tile track I haven't pulled the trigger on one yet. Run it, and let us know, as I would love to have one!

First Off Welcome to the Challenge! As to your question I find, with my short 2 year experience with Mini-z's, when I found a setup I liked I can be almost as fast and just as consistent with my 90mm RM cars as I can with my 98/102mm cars, though the short wheel base cars require SMOOTH inputs on the controls. That's where running - Expo with CPU radios is a huge help! For me it's a trade off between shooting through the tight corners with the 90mm's vs. the high speed cornering stability of the 98/102mm. I'm working on painting my 2 94mm bodies, as they tend to be a good mix of the 2. Also different bodies handle/drive quiet differently at the same wheel base length, so I try to have a few bodies at each wheel base to try when the layout changes. Though availability and cost prohibit that for me especially at 86mm!
PoorBoy, that blue paint is GREAT!
I tried a few runs yesterday, but my hand was numb most of the time so my times were in the mid 7 minute mark. So I didn't post any times, but I'm getting a injection in my shoulder this week and hopefully it will help so I can get some good runs after the layout changes!

Thanks for the info, I ran with some expo changes and was able to drop alot of time and the car felt easier to drive . I'll play around a bit more with subtle changes to dial in further.
