Default Comparison: Traxxas v Spektrum

Hello everyone. Curious for anyone’s thought in which brushless system (3s) is better/or like better. Personally I haven’t owned a brushless Traxxas car but I know a few people who do. I have a Senton 3s, when I’ve race other ppl with there Traxxas car/truck I feel like I get more torque but less speed and I don’t get as long of a run time. I’m planning on upgrading one of my cars to brushless and have been going back and forth on getting Traxxas or Spektrum, I have also looked at hobbywing being they make most companies motors and whatnot. Anyways curious on what other ppl have found to be better about each system. Appreciate any responses.

Hobbywing would be the better choice, in my opinion.

+1 to HobbyWing, they offer a high quality product.

However I personally would buy Spektrum before Traxxas, more info on my reasons I choose to boycott Traxxas:

interesting. Ima have to look into that. Thanks for the info. I’ve really been leaning towards getting hobbywing so I think that’s what I’ll do.

There's a reason you see the pro racers using Hobbywing, and no pro racers using Traxxas or Spektrum ESC's and/or motors. At least none that I have heard of.

I'm in the hobbywing camp too.

That difference in runtime sounds like the traxxas vehicles you are running with are prob 2wd. Less drive train losses and weight means more speed and runtime. My friend has the Rustler 2wd VXL and it's really quite fast.

I have the Arrma Granite 3s BLX, same system as your senton, it's already pretty fast. But if I was looking to upgrade I'd most likely pick a hobbywing system. few google searches it looks like hte stock motor is the 3200kv Spektrum 3660 motor. So assuming you want to stay on 3s the motor / esc combo is probably the Hobbywing Max10 G2 140amp esc and 3665 4000kv motor. Or maybe just get the ESC and see how long the stock motor lasts on 4s.

The bottom line for you, though, would be warranty. If you're just racing the neighborhood, or bashing, the Traxxas would probably be the better choice because of how easy their warranty is. If you were going to a track to race, then I'd go with the Hobbywing.

OP already has the Spektrum BLX 3S setup which isn't weak. I don't think swapping in the Velinion 3s system will be much of an upgrade from the Spektrum system if at all. Little higher kv so it might be a little bit of a hotter setup. Even if the warranty is that much better than hobbywing I don't think you are going to go faster with it.

Sorry I wasn’t clear originally, the system I buy will be going in a Traxxas Corvette 3.0 and not the Senton.
I will definitely buy a the motor and esc from hobbywing. I’ve done a little looking and found a couple systems that look pretty good and for a good price.

Never thought about that, one guy I raced around with had a 4x4 slash but the truck was definitely lighter. Couple others ran 2wd, so makes sense.

Personally I haven’t ever raced but definitely makes sense that racers would go with hobbywing.

Appreciate everyone’s responses and advice!
