Overall, I don't think we can compare the price of electronics today vs 20 years ago. A $150 ESC 20 years ago has less features than a $75 ESC today. Same with servos and batteries. I remember paying $100 for an SCR 1700mah matched battery over 20 years ago. That battery isn't worth the box in came in when you compare it to a $100 battery today.

Either way. we might have gone way off topic to beat a dead horse. The RC10T4 is a great truck and I would love to have one. I just don't like that they didn't add wheels and a shell. Seems like a pretty chintzy move to me. Chintzy as is "cheap" and not "shiny."

The part I'm confused about is, isn't the shell on off road stuff bespoke to the chassis? As they have to fit along the chassis sidepods, especially for buggy.

So what now? Wait for the usual suspects to release their own aftermarket shells?

The new HB nitro 8th scale is also like this....

I'm sorry to add my piece to this discussion. The biggest reason to remove the body, wheels, and tires is not material costs, but shipping. The volume of the new kit boxes is significantly smaller having removed those items, and manufacturers can save significantly on transport prices.

I just don’t see that being the case. The body is only slightly longer and only a bit wider than the chassis. I can understand the wheels as they are kinda bulky. My RC8T4 didn’t come with a body but there is plenty of space in the box for it with the rest of the parts as most of the parts will sit inside the body. Not to mention their RTR line of vehicles. Them boxes are pretty big. It has to have something to do with overall profit for the company but then again maybe they couldn’t strike deal with whatever body manufacturers they normally work with. I could be wrong as I am sometimes (according to my wife I’m always wrong). Regardless I’m sure that the new truck will shine really bright on the track just like all of its predecessors.

Fun facts for everyone. I do agree that electronics can't really be compared since the cost of them have come down a lot, but the prices haven't seemed to have changed that much since 2012 for example. BUT corporate mark ups on products across all industries have been increasing consistently and importantly in the last 3 years as they all tend to blame "supply issues" or "high demand". This AE truggy does look to be improved but the prices for new 1/10 rc's seem to have increased for not much reason other than mark ups.

If it makes you feel any better, the body included with the T6.2 was hated by most, as it didn't fit great and was easily broken. I believe it was made by ProLine, which is now owned by Horizon...which also owns TLR, who doesn't even make a truck anymore. I'm guessing they didn't see the truck class as being profitable enough...

I'm just happy Associated came out with new trucks and continues to support those of us who love the class.

I'd bet TLR loyalists would GLADLY forgo a body in the box if it meant an updated TLR truck....in fact, many of them are switching to AE due to this and lack of updated 2w buggy.

I agree, the stock 6.2 body is bad.. but the offerings from jconcepts couldn’t look worse. The finnisher is OK, but the f2 looks horrible, too boxy. And the axis just doesn’t look like a ST body with the flat hood line.

I wonder if the Jconcepts "GT" truck body would fit the new 6.2, 6.4 trucks, the shock tower accommodation is towards the rear, I wonder if it's far enough back or tall enough. It looks "old School".

I’ll have to check. I’m curious as well.

I'd love them to bring back an old school truck body. I put a vw bug body from a Traxxas stampede on my t6.2 after the JC f2 body wore out. It was a big hit at the track and everyone liked the bruggy look.

I am curious if Jconcepts is going to update the description for the F2- T6.2 Finnisher body to say it fits the T6.4. I have not seen any mention of a new body coming out for the T6.4. If the T6.2 body is our one option I imagine they could sell out once this truggy is released.

I couldn't be more in agreement with this comment. I know I'm comparing apples to oranges, but after buying a TLR 22 5.0 buggy and having to spend another $200 to make it fast and get parts for other cars and hack up knuckles with my Dremel and....(you get the picture). I bought a used SC5M SCT, put back to a stock kit setup, drove the heck out of it and I couldn't have been more impressed. Switching my offroad program to AE. Slightly disappointed in the high price to begin with but if it includes the extra $200 parts I'd have to buy compared to it's competitors then it's an easy sell for me.

Wider rear c/d blocks

Got a good setup for a dirt surface

Probably not going to see anyone going to the 6.4 bellcranks/rack on a 6.2 as that requires buying the entire 6.4 front end.
